Agreed. All other things being equal (I know, they never are), I’d much rather we’d played as many games as our opponent (or even more). That said, I have a good feeling about tonight. Hope our Lions will start strong!
Report was he had a very good Spring running the ball. Players say he runs hard and w vision in box. We didn't get that from the q run game last season. I'd like to see Goodwin's feet used more, too. Very capable.
Bio says 6-5 and looks more than the 215 bio states. Probably a between tackles option, not really a break away chunk play threat. Gained positive yards each time though, and got a drive started well. We'll have to see if that continues now that we put it on tape and opponents can game plan it. Expect heavy box and run pressures if he enters game next week. Will need to show he can pass in game as well.
I felt the fr back was running high on GL. Joey gets in on that play. When on the 1 w 4 plays, gotta believe our OL could get us in w 4 slams between tackles. Not questioning Seitu, because I believe he is very good calling plays.
The empire has no clothes. As many pointed out last year was still mostly Fabish with his recruits being the team. Unfortunately, I think we are starting to see the empire wears no clothes. I did not see the effort energy enthusiasm or love that I saw during the Fabish era and I worry for the rest of the season. As always, will support the lions to the end, but I think the exit of Fabish is going to be remembered as one of the most devastating coaching losses in Columbia football history.
Will you all please cool your moose?! First game of the season against a strong Patriot league team with 3 games under their belt. Mistakes are being made, and coaching needs to catch up too. But c'mon, gimme a break!
We made a ton of mistakes but the biggest issue for me is that both of our lines got pushed around. We started off on the wrong foot with the mistake on the opening kickoff but the whopper was trying twice to pass for a score from the 1. If you can’t move the other team’s DL from the 1 you don’t deserve to win.
I agree but we lost the game at the start of the 3rd quarter. It felt like whoever scored 1st in the second half was going to win. By the time we had that 4th and goal, game was already over.
Lots to like about last night. Walters and Crews looked very good. QB position is still solid despite the numbers. Kicking and special teams looked very good. O Line too despite LT having a bad game. Young players with some expected mistakes( DB giving too much space). Stovall's 3-4 not the right D last night. Probably based on scouting reports. Got no pressure on the QB, allowed way too many yards on the ground. Don't forget that the Leopards are a very good team. Charlie Newton was outstanding! Kicking game looked strong. How about Hugo and the new punter! Walters and Johnson. Looks like we have two strong ribs.
Play calling with four chances on the 1 one a headscratcher, so too leaving L's receivers wide open all night, Goodwin's cross-field interception to a covered man. But as others have noted the biggest problem was being completely dominated on both lines from the git-go. What was that all about?
I expected Townsend to be a game changer but he wasn’t. He put no pressure on the QB at all and failed to seal the edge. Is he 100%? As far as the OL, they opened up holes for the running game in the first half but didn’t give Goodwin enough time to go through his progressions on the passing game.
What struck me the most is the softness of our defense. We were beaten up front, our tackling was terrible, pass defenders gave the receivers a huge cushion, we never pressured the QB, and we failed to come up with 3rd down stops. While the offense can be faulted —especially for failing to score from the 1 on 4 tries, we lost this game because our defense was awful in every facet of the game.
As I said earlier, the 3-4 , designed to bend but not break was incorrect last night. Usually, during the game, Stovall changes up and does some 4-3. Expect Paul Ferraro to have a sit down with Stovall this week. For all you panic mode fans, relax. Poppe is different from Bagnoli/Fabish. Way different.
Offense got stalled 8/9 times throughout the whole game. Don’t know if it’s play calling or QB faults not being able to make the plays. But if you my opinion we can’t win with a 15 for 36 completion rate from QB. RB’s did and got us a few crucial downs. But that pick that was thrown was crucial and that’s when the game was over. We might need to go with Sanchez and see what he can do.
Let’s keep in mind that we might disagree with each other’s opinions but no name calling or disrespecting Respect! As I myself disagree with many but I don’t disrespect them by calling others names. Thank you
Nothing new, but we always open up against a team that's played 2-3 games. Wish the league started even a week earlier.
ReplyDeleteThere’s a saying in football that you got to be ready.
DeleteDidn’t hurt us last year
ReplyDeleteWe played like crap at Georgetown. Would have certainly helped to have another game under our belts.
DeleteAgreed. All other things being equal (I know, they never are), I’d much rather we’d played as many games as our opponent (or even more). That said, I have a good feeling about tonight. Hope our Lions will start strong!
DeleteWhite pants, white jerseys and Navy helmet. We play well with the Navy helmet.
DeleteColumbia 16
DeleteLafayette 6
Our D line is being pushed all over the field
ReplyDeletePoor tackling
ReplyDeleteWe look very rusty
ReplyDeleteMiserable tackling
ReplyDeleteOffense is moving well. Several first years are looking good
ReplyDeleteFirst two drives. After that nothing
DeleteDefense needs to tighten up now
ReplyDeleteDefense needs to tighten up
ReplyDeleteDefense needs to tighten up
ReplyDeleteAnybody’s game. Need some turnovers in the second half.
ReplyDeleteYeah, preferably from Lafayette though...
DeleteMenapace getting some unexpected reps at QB. Not sure if his running skills are that much of a threat.
ReplyDeleteReport was he had a very good Spring running the ball. Players say he runs hard and w vision in box. We didn't get that from the q run game last season. I'd like to see Goodwin's feet used more, too. Very capable.

DeleteHow do you fail to score on first and goal? And why no power formation? why call 2 passes ?? Awful play calling
ReplyDeleteI felt the fr back was running high on GL. Joey gets in on that play. When on the 1 w 4 plays, gotta believe our OL could get us in w 4 slams between tackles. Not questioning Seitu, because I believe he is very good calling plays.
DeleteOur DL has shown nothing.

ReplyDelete-Old Lion 68
Old Lion is an Old Fool. Turned on Poppe in a little over 2 quarters.
DeleteAgreed - CC ‘73
DeleteGreat way to the spirit old lion.
DeleteIf we had confidence in our OL we never would have passed from the 1!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are being outplayed and outcoached. Failure to score from the 1 lost the game for us—and that is on the coaches.
ReplyDeleteDown 3 scores when that happened. Game was already over.
DeleteOur receivers cannot get separation. Goodwin does not look good either. If this keeps up we should go to Sanchez
ReplyDeleteAgree. We can’t win if Goodwin goes 15/34 and only one TD. He also throws to the first WR and doesn’t go through his progressions.
DeleteTownsend is not yet 100%
ReplyDeleteWill you all please cool your moose?!

Agree. Have some composure.

ReplyDeleteThis is the worst Columbia game in years. Disgraceful performance.
ReplyDeleteOh man your era must have been the greatest! Stfu and go crawl back to bed with your fat wife and day dream about being back at baker.
DeleteHaha
DeleteThere is no excuse for not scoring with first and goal at the one.
ReplyDeleteIt's never happened in the history of football at any level.
DeleteCorrect. Vs Lafayette

DeleteBottom line is that our offense couldn’t keep up with their offense.Bring in Sanchez
ReplyDeleteToo early for that, doofus
DeletePlease be respectful. And it’s not too early. Going 15-35 is not good. Numbers don’t lie.
DeleteWatch the game. Goodwin throws to his first WR and doesn’t go through his progressions. I played QB in college and noticed things you don’t. The end
DeleteStop with the Sanchez talk. Goodwin is the guy, and anyone who understands the position knows that.
DeleteAgreed. Goodwin is our guy and will do fine.
DeleteHe didn’t do well. Let’s be real. Don’t make excuses. He wasn’t going to through his progressions. Watch the game.
DeleteI saw the same thing. He misses Canty. He tries to force the ball to his first option.
ReplyDeleteTownsend was invisible.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side the first year RB , Walters, is a load.
ReplyDeleteAgree. He played well.
DeleteAll three parts of the team, offense, defense and special teams have a lot of work to do.
ReplyDelete"I played QB in college". For Columbia?
ReplyDeleteLots to like about last night. Walters and Crews looked very good. QB position is still solid despite the numbers. Kicking and special teams looked very good. ReplyDeleteIt was a winnable game until we failed to score from the 1 on 4 occasions, which totally deflated us—play calling there was atrocious.
ReplyDeleteWe were down 3 scores at that point. Game was over.
DeleteNo it wasn't.
DeleteYes it was

ReplyDeleteI agree. At the goal line... Why not a misdirection bootleg or two passes? Situ will review this AND it won't happen again
ReplyDeleteCries out for the wildcat

ReplyDeletePoppe isn't giving up his guys after one game. He's not benching Goodwin or Townsend or anyone.
DeleteGreat point. Let the boys play a few more games and then we can talk. Go lions !!!
DeleteLet’s move on fellas. We lost and let’s cheer on the boys !!
DeleteAgreed. Move on. Goodwin and Townsend are studs and will be just fine as the season goes. Let’s go Lions!!
DeleteLet's get after Georgetown!
DeleteLet’s keep in mind that we might disagree with each other’s opinions but no name calling or disrespecting Respect! As I myself disagree with many but I don’t disrespect them by calling others names. Thank you
DeleteI agree. However, turning on Poppe and the team after a few quarters is also disrespectful.
DeleteWe should respect trolls who spew nonsense.
ReplyDeleteRespect goes a long way
