47 days until training camp opens

75 days until season kicks off

With just 47 days to go until an extremely crucial training camp begins at Columbia, what advice would you give the players as tehy prepare for three weeks of competition and exhaustion?

For the freshmen, just getting used to college and college football may be the toughest challenge.

For the returning players, getting used to their new coaching staff, (even though they got a taste in the spring), could be rough.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be asking some Columbia football alumni what advice they have for the guys as they look at just under seven weeks until they have to report to Baker Field.

Feel free to weigh in with your advice in the comments below.

For me, the hardest thing to overcome was the depth chart. As a Soph. (Frosh could not play Varsity when I was there) everyone tells you to "wait your turn"... The issue is that you are coming from a program where you were "THE" guy and you were highly successful; to now where you are at the bottom rung of the ladder. You want to prove to everyone that you belong here AND that you deserve playing time. I would say to incoming Freshman and returning players, is to find any way to get on the field so that you can prove yourself. This may come in the form of Special Teams, volunteering for assignments at practice, watching extra film, and being ON TIME and READY TO GO at all times. It's the little things that the coaches notice. Last thing... when you are at practice, ALWAYS run to the ball; wherever you are on the field, until the whistle blows. As they say, "the eye in the sky does not lie". Which means that when the coaches review the film, they see who is hustling and who is taking a play off... My two cents...

Be in fantastic physical condition. Not just strength training but all around fantastic shape Coach Mangurian can't abide players who are fat, or even just overweight. He will run them right off the team. If he wants to get the roster down below 95 or so, that is what you can expect.
