In my TV news business, (I've been a TV news producer for 19 years), will call a soundbite an "SOT" for "sound on tape."
We call video without any sound a "VO."
Well after showing you the VO of Alan Watson signing his letter of intent for Columbia I thought I'd highlight a nice soundbite from incoming TE Connor Spears which you can see and hear by going about one minute into this video from KITV in Sioux City.

Football: Southside’s Hunton Heads To Columbia

Southside tight end John Hunton knew he was destined for Columbia University the first time head coach Pete Mangurian walked through the front door of his parents’ house. Mangurian made Hunton feel at ease.
Wednesday, Hunton formally agreed to play football for the Lions. Columbia finished 3-7 last season and 2-5 in the Ivy League, which is an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision conference. The Ivy League does not allow schools to offer athletic scholarships.
“The head coach, he’s been around the block,” Hunton said. “He played in the NFL and he played at LSU. He talked about building a program and how special that would be to be a part of.”
Mangurian took over at Columbia in 2011. He has more than 30 years of coaching experience, from the SEC to the Ivy League. He also spent a number of seasons as an NFL assistant.
Hunton caught 48 career passes for 512 yards and nine touchdowns with the Rebels and was a fixture for three seasons.
“He started 36 football games and he never missed a snap,” Southside coach Jeff Williams said. “It’s an amazing opportunity for him, but he’s done the work and put himself in that position by working hard on the football field and in the classroom. What he did for our football team is invaluable.”
I posted the above piece about our new TE b/c it was interesting to hear what impressed him about CU.

We just crushed Harvard in Men's Basketball 78-63!!!!
It's unbelievable that our team can beat Harvard by 15 and Villanova by 18 on their court and still lose to Cornell, Penn and Dartmouth.
Today i saw a team play with emotion and confidence.They shot the ball instead of holding it and expecting the worst. It also helps to hit the 3 ball!
Great game. We played with confidence and put 80 points on Harvard. We do better with an up tempo game. Lo was fantastic, as was Frankoski, and Osetkowski was a force.

We were a much better basketball team today than Harvard. We totally outplayed Harvard in all facets of the game. Only some excellent referee hazing by Tommy A kept the game from being a complete rout. Tommy certainly knows how to play the referees. However, our guys showed that they are capable of defeating almost any team on any particular night.
Jake, you mentioned in your previous posting about Alan Watson that he made Honorable Mention All-State Ohio. Not to split hairs, but it was actually "Special Mention," which is a cut above the Honorable Mention All-State level in Ohio. Watson reminds me of Tony Dorsett in his early days, smaller but just as fast and agile. With some help for a change from the football gods, I think he'll be a star at Columbia. Really, it's elementary!
