-Obviously, the Lions will remain the lightest team in the Ivies this year. Those fans who thought the extremely light offensive line last season was some kind of quirk better think again. The average weight of 253 pounds as of now for our O-linemen is obviously by design. This is a planned experiment and we all hope it works,
And one last note: former Columbia football player-turned star pitcher on the CU Lions baseball team Roy Altman '05 has written a very intelligent but accessible op-ed in the Wall Street Journal today. Be sure to check it out and see just how scholarly our athletes really are!

I am pasting in Ungvar's comment in the string below Jake's last post since all others including Jake seem to miss Ungvar's excellent point:

Funny to see nearly all of OL guys in the 250s. Not a bad place to be given that they'll be lifting throughout the spring and summer. I'm thinking we'll average 270 by September.
I seriously doubt that. The players who slimmed down to the 250 level did so over the last offseason and have had plenty of time to get up to 270. I don't think Mangurian wants the average OL weight to rise. I think he wants muscle to fat ratio to improve and of course he wants better results. But I am really not expecting to see any real weight gain between now and the end of training camp.
The scale will tell.
I'd be happy to be wrong, but I'm really mostly interested in more wins as we all are.

My favorite football position, tight end, certainly looks like a tremendous strength position for Columbia this year. As I see it, we have a nice balance of outstanding veterans led by two of the Ivy League's best players, Hamilton Garner and Nick Durham, both of whom have added considerable weight in the off-season. We also have another good veteran in Zack McKown. Then we have a big talented veteran in Gsrrett Demuth who missed all of last year due to injury. Finally, we have two outstanding newcomers in John Hunton and Connor Spears. I am expecting to see plenty of exciting two tight end formations. Who knows, maybe Coach Mangurian might even put three of them guys on the field at one time, especially in the red zone.
Kudos to Lion baseball for sweeping both double headers on the road this weekend.
The head coach reaching out does not constitute "a program." Admirable, but not the answer.
I agree with oldlion. Men's baseball not only won all 4 games over the weekend, but they now lead the Gehrig division and have more league wins than any other team in the entire league. Baseball has homecoming this Saturday vs Cornell at home at Baker. See you there.
There is a lot of good results this spring besides baseball. Check out the results in men's and women's crew (e.g., women have beaten Yale, Penn and Dartmouth already; men beat Dartmouth yesterday); women's and men's tennis (e.g., women have beaten Harvard, men are nationally ranked); track (women and men look to build on third each in Ivies in winter); and softball (competitive in Ivies so far).
And of course kudos this spring to baseball and wrestlng post-regular season --and both fencing and swimming men's and women's teams had great winters

CU's career resources center was great at least as far back as the 80's. I would assume it is even better now. The football office is just one avenue they should be pursuing jobs through and if they are putting all their eggs in that basket (hopefully not the case) they are making a mistake...
