The Internet chat boards are buzzing about a possible Columbia-Lafayette
scrimmage on August 31st. I haven’t heard any official word about
this and also don’t know where the game would be played.
This would be the first preseason scrimmage for the Lions
since 2010. I took Columbia’s decision not to schedule scrimmages that last two
seasons as a negative development, so this could be considered somewhat as good
news for us.
Incidentally, 8/31 is a full three weeks before our regular
season starts at Fordham but just one week before the Leopards begin their
regular season at home vs. Sacred Heart.
How many season ending injuries did we suffer from chop blocks when we played Lafayette?
ReplyDeleteWho did Columbia used to scrimmage prior to 2010 in preseason?
ReplyDeleteColumbia got into a 4 or 5-year long tradition of scrimmaging Brown up until 2011. Before that, the Lions took on Harvard in preseason a few times.
ReplyDeleteThe only player I know who got hurt in a regular season game vs. Lafayette in a permanent way was Alex Gross in 2009. But he came back in 2010 in a big way.
Alex was chopped blocked in the Lafayette game, for sure, and he had to change his game when he came back. He wasn't as fast. After that game, I wondered if the Lafayette line coach was coaching his blockers properly. And our great freshman DT recruit was also chop blocked and was never the same, although I can neither remember his name nor the opponent, although I thought it was also Lafayette.
ReplyDeleteOwen Fraser.
ReplyDeleteWas he chop blocked by Lafayette?
ReplyDeleteFraser was chop blocked at Fordham in 2009.
