This cannot stand.
This has to be the worst coached football team I've ever seen. Someone is going to get very seriously hurt out there. If Bollinger makes no firings he is clearly saying he does not care about the student athletes or their safety.
If he doesn't fire Mangurian and Murphy, then it's time to fire him.

As a football alum, is it too late to transfer?
Word is the players walked past Pete while he was talking after the game. Sound like he is truly lost it from all. Time to resign Pete. Make the only good decision you have made all year.
In reply to Mitch S. CC 66's post of 11-15-13
Your right they would never hire former Boston College head coach Jeff Gadozinski. His two teams at BC had a record of 20-8, averaged 400 yards of offense per game and had a victory over Michigan State in one of its two bowl games. He also knows how to recruit at an competitive academic institution. Nah, he's not right for CU.
teacher mike 196
He had no interest in 2011 when he didn't have a job why would he now? Murphy is repellant to good candidates.
Bolly's old friend, AhmadineJIHAD, is between. presidencies. And he's an expert in throwing bombs and improvising explosive road games.
Campbell can make anything happen...unfortunately he's half in the bag at every game he attends so not sure he even see's whats going on. Just ask anyone who sits near him up in the press box. Its a joke. A lost cause. Boll has Campbell's support and check book.
Take a step outside Jake's bubble. Columbia is one of the world's great university. The president won't do what you want and fire the football coach, so now you want to fire the president? Has the entire university suddenly migrated to Texas? This whole saga is rapidly deteriorating into self-parody.
Seriously, if they retain him, we all need to revolt! NO MORE MONEY to athletics or the University!!! This will be the ONLY thing that they understand!!!
Agreed, this is completely unacceptable! OldLion, contact some of your people to make some noise...
Anyone who thinks the president cares about, or will be responsive to, a few disgruntled alums, and especially about football, is embarrassingly naive.
Bollinger's just raised $6 billion for Columbia. His job is secure and will probably be extended by the trustees. I fear we're stuck with him, MDM and PM.
The more money Bollinger raises, the more I want him out. If he's so wonderful and marvelous, how come he can't hire a decent football coach? Please answer that, all you smug toadies who bow down to the almighty Bollinger. He's building a huge campus expansion but couldn't reserve a lousy hundred yards for a practice field? He lied that he wanted to end what he called "a culture of losing." Now he sneers at alums and students who love Columbia athletics. He can stick his arrogance where it belongs.
Well it looks like Campbell, Boll, Mdm, AND UNFORTUNATELY PM will be back for another horrific season. The only thing we can do is to boycott all Football Fund raising events...I hope the players voice there true feelings to the Admin at seasons end. DO NOT DONATE A DIME TO THIS DISASTER...NO GOLF OUTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To make things worse tonight on the ride home from Cornell the bus got into a car accident with another car those poor kids what a long freaking day
The University admin and financial supporters have more interest in a non-football agenda which is why the fiasco is allowed to persist. If Bill Campbell is a drunk then that is why he has been giving too much money to the University. Write him off. Whatever his success in business if he's a drunk, that is enough of a punishment for his role in this. The real issue is letting Pete know he's not getting out of this unscathed. Ramp up the criticism a hundredfold, put it in his face and let's see how long it takes for him to figure out that SERIOUSLY no one likes him.
Make every alum - regardless if they are a football fan or not - aware of the tragedy. Whoever is the keeper of that alum email database holds the key to the ejection of Pete Mangurian from CU grounds.
I heard everyone is okay in that accident

You all know where I stand on this travesty. I will be out there next week with buttons again, and maybe the senior parents will be willing to stand up and wear them, now that the season is done.
Regardless, they will be also distributed among students over the coming weeks to wear on campus. In the meantime, serious alumni are discussing what initiatives can be brought to bear. This not over and done because FB ends next week.
In the meantime, I cannot endorse attacks on Bill C. I believe him to be an honorable man, and I believe that he has deliberately distanced himself from AD decision making. I do think it vital that he understands the sense of the alumni. This is an admin issue which sits with Bollinger.
University presidents are a lot like politicians. They only react when they think that they are going to lose face with important constituencies. Jake, can you publish on this blog the names and affiliations of all current members of the board of trustees, along with the senior members of the development office. Then everybody who cares should call anybody he or she knows and ask for a one on one meeting. In addition, write well crafted letters explaining why this situation can only be addressed by a complete housekeeping on the AD and football departments. These people count numbers. Unless Murphy goes football cannot be fixed because I don't think she is capable of hiring and then retaining a good football coach. I intend to do my share. I trust that others, who are tired of those sickening Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, will do the same.
Excellent idea OldLion! Jake please publish the NHDC's e-mail addresses. We can send them note as well. I mean if they have time between negotiating with Gulden's for better mustard pricing.
I am urging ALL SENIOR parents please encourage your sons to be forthright in their opinions of what went on this season. Ask them to speak up , write letters and voice all that the rest of the team cannot say. Also , please parents do the same . Write letters, speak out loud , don't hold back and I know you will be heard. It was a lousy season for your son, maybe you can make it better for the kids who cannot speak. ThankYou,...A Very Concerned Parent
Seriously though, who in their right mind thinks that the program is going in the right direction? Note, we haven't scored an offensive (non-FG) touchdown in ELEVEN quarters (4th quarter of the Yale game).
Can anyone please explain to me any of the "positives" that Pete has brought to the program, or how we are showing any progress?
I understand that Dianne is not going anywhere, even though our record in principal sports (sans baseball) is abysmal. But how can we allow this to keep go on? Honestly, how??? What is the defense to maintain the status quo? We don't know what Pete is thinking because he never communicates to the parents, alums and loyal fans of Columbia. How can that happen? Is Dianne scared of him? Where is the accountability? In one piece of communication Pete said that year two is the most important of any turn-around. If that is the case (which I agree), then we need to honestly look at ourselves and admit that the program is not going in the right direction; and that we made a mistake with Pete at the helm.
I've had the "pleasure" of attending several home and one away games this year. Our team looks tremendously undersized, non-athletic, and they have not learned out to hit yet (especially the DBs). The art of wrapping up a receiver/running back is lost! Our O-line is an embarrassment; even by last year's standards where I thought that we hit an all-time low. I sincerely believe that we are sending out ill-prepared young men that will get hurt out there. We have to start thinking in those terms.
What is truely offensive is the fact that most second teams can beat us. in Harvard's case, their third team could have run up the score. At what point does Pete, Dianne, Bill, and the football Committee look in the mirror and say that you all made a mistake. Please don't blame our demise on injuries. All teams have injuries, yet they overcome them. We just wallow in our sorrow and say "next year". Well, I for one am tired of that. If there is not a change going forward, then I will no longer be attending any more CU football games or contributing any additional funds to the program. Albeit, my contributions are small, but nevertheless, I simply cannot support something that is so dreadfully wrong!
If anybody has any answers to my above questions, I would welcome some answers...
Totally agree with the above post! I want answers too.
Maybe we should forfeit the Brown game because we are only going to get hurt and abused out there.
The only way we will get answers is that if they see the donations go down. Those who are unhappy should not give to CU.
Dear President Bollingerand Miss Murphy, look what just happened at Rutgers? The Administration ignored the family and now they are in hot water.
Jake,
I'm done suggesting, complaining, hoping and praying. Thanks for the outlet. It looks to me that you are fighting "city hall". Good luck!
Too many weak links all over the program to see any major changes on horizon. Will still encourage all players to keep their chins up and do their best in school.
Thanks again.

One other suggestion: some of our former football greats need to get behind the power curve here and form a broad based committee of guys with skin in the game and get enough of a critical mass to demand changes. And that change has to start with getting rid of Murphy.
Logan Scott, who was originally committed to Columbia, but switched his commitment from Columbia to Yale, and was 4th string, threw for 3 youchdown passes yesterday. Does this qualify as a highlight of the Columbia season?
I have a question. Where do we all stand on the Great Mangozo playing the seniors this week? The season is completely lost and how worse can they be than any lineup the Great Mangozo has put forth yet? ALERT: I AM NOT FINDING FAULT WITH THE NEW GUYS. However, this is the last opportunity for the seniors to be rewarded for their four years of dedication.
In response to a poster stating two players (referred to by jersey number only) were not having a good game, I went to check the online roster because I do not remember all of our players by number. I found myself surfing through the published stats and player commentaries by the Great Mangozo. I came away realizing the guys who were pushed aside by the Great Mangozo have just as good or even better numbers than the new crop and they do in fact possess some football talent.
So put yourself in a senior's shoes and consider his hope for this coming Saturday:
A) get some playing time and risk injury because your coach failed to even practice you
B) gulp down yet another Great Mangozo indignation and stand on the sideline if he even lets you dress
My heart breaks for these young men who do not deserve either choice. The Great Mangozo, Diane Murphy, Bill Campbell, you and your ilk utterly disgust me.
I can think of something that Pete has taught the players this season. How to hate.
I remember that QB recruit's name, Logan Scott, now firing TDs for Yale. He must have run for the door when
The Mangurian Candidate ordered him to slim down to a cadaver.
The intimidation, the abuse, the insults to upper classmen and general lack of caring on the part of little lord mangurian and his followers is gross and no great leader uses those tactics to create a long-term winning program.
So little lord mangurian, what say you? How about getting out of the way and let somebody with the credentials come in and do the job. You remind me of a quote, "is it better to be feared or loved? Feared..." But in your case it is neither. Nobody loves you and nobody fears you...you are just a little man in a job that is a thousand levels above your skill set. Just another baby throwing a tantrum.
As one of those former football players I will gladly stand and be counted.
Rich Forzani '66C
I believe that, based upon conversations I've been having with various folks, along with specific comments on this string, there are several courses of action open to those of us who truly wish to take action.
1) All former athletes who are willing, please contact Jake directly so that we can prepare a letter to which you can affix your signature. This will be forwarded to the appropriate parties in the Admin. You'll see the doc prior. It will be totally factual and impersonal.
2) Ditto for alums.
3) Senior FBs/parents; if you are willing and have accurate and dispassionate info about egregious verbal/emotional/physical treatment, please contact Jake so that this can be documented.
I want to emphasize that this last is NOT a lynch party, it is an attempt to accumulate facts for appropriate dissemination.
We will be assembling appropriate contacts for you to forward your own commentary. All this above is intended petitioning purposes.

In big time college basketball, some new coaches build their program from the ground floor by promising potential freshman recruits immediate playing time. Who suffers under this win now approach, seniors and juniors.
Bill Campbell once said that the reason he wasn't successful as CU's football coach was that he wasn't ruthless enough. I guess he couldn't do the things the current coach is doing. If I remember correctly, Campbell's teams lost a lot of low scoring close games. His teams didn't generate a lot of offense but they were competitive.
With the opposite ruthless approach, PM's team neither plays close games or is any way near competitive.
Rich,
Respectfully….how many championships did you win and how many winning seasons were you a part of while you were at Columbia? Jake, respectfully same question for you. I was just curious as an alum myself since you all are so called experts in football. Where does all of your football expertise to base all of your ridiculous assumptions, comments, and galvanization of parents, alums etc come from.
Can you not see….President Bollinger is supporting Coach Mangurian and everything you do from here forward either helps or hurts the team. Its so disappointing to see the ridiculous attacks on President Bollinger, Dr. Murphy and Coach Mangurian.
Disgusted with my so called "alums"
You can't you take fifty red apples, set them on a shelf and then put fifty green apples in a jar and claim to have applesauce made from one hundred apples! If you mix them together, add the right spices, follow a proven recipe, you eventually will have something. The Great Mangozo could have nurtured his recruits into his new system over a few seasons while creating a true TEAM that would support each other all the way. We do not have that. We have a collection of kids who once HAD a passion for football appearing in the Greatest Farce on Earth.
The Great Mangozo is an illusion that needs you to set aside your intellect. Oddly, a bit creative as he has obviously fooled Camby, Smurpy and Bollie. Next act, please!!!
To Rich Forzani "66'
What can the parents do that have boys on the team that are not seniors? I cannot imagine another season with my son being treated by intimidation and insults. Yet with the relationship between Diane and Pete you cannot risk going to Diane with complaints. Is there anyway to complain without putting your kid in jeopardy. How sad is this whole situation?!
To "it's so disappointing to see the ridiculous attacks on President Bollinger, Dr. Murphy and Coach Mangurian". Ask the parents of the players that are getting trampled on and injured, who practice everyday at 5:30 am , who have been sitting in the stands, who are about to graduate and have not played and who's have not seen a win this season, ask them that question. You cannot possibly be serious. I am in total shock that anyone who has graduated from Columbia could be so stupid!
To "it's so disappointing to see ..."
Ask what question?
What do we think of all of our sons get trampled on, injured, practiced at 5:30, sitting in the stands, not getting to play, not getting a win? Ask me what I think? Or ask the players what they think? Hmmmm ...you'd probably get the same answer.
What appears to be stupid is your support for the clowns that let our sons get trampled on, injured, practiced at 5:30, sitting in the stands, not getting to play, not getting a win.
I have NEVER let my children quit anything but there is a fine line between dedication and stupidity and Columbia football is astride that line.
ThankYou for clarifying, that is what I meant. You would get the same answer from parents and the team. What I think is stupid is how can a Columbia grad wonder why we cannot support the decisions made by Bollinger , Murphy and PM. I have never let my children quit either , but in this case my son does not want to quit. He is seeing this through to the bitter end.
Columbia administration needs to do what USC did with Lane Kiffin, fire the coach and admit a mistake was made.
There decision was proactive and decisive. Pat Haden, the AD at USC made a business decision to right the program in mid season and terminate Coach Kiffin.
As we can see USC program is back winning. This bs that he needs more time is just bs. His performance as a coach is obvious . Quit kicking the can down the road and fire this guy! He is not the right fit, plain and simple!

Some one should show a video of practice to the press. All coaches yell and scream but if it is worse then that, then it could help make a change.
My son probably won't quit either but it is intolerable to think of any one of our sons having to endure this for another game, season or worse yet, a few more years.
I can't help but recall, "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
Our sons are pearls and right now, they are not in the right setting.
To the moron who claimed Drunken Bill has distanced himself from MDM and the admin?? Are u kidding me? When you are the head of the board of trustees and give as much as he has...you cannot distance your self. It's on him. He has blessed the last 5 Head moron football coaches that this Univ has hired. All unqualified I may add. I call on all alums to not give a dime to the univ or attend any more football related fundraising functions. If u do u give Boll the support he needs to keep this program in the toilet Which is where he wants it to be.
We're comparing different levels of football, but from what
I saw, I think Kiffin is a much better coach even though he's about 23 years younger than PM. Still, he paid the price for a medoctre beginning this season. We have to put up with 60 years of failure.
Rich Forzani '66C
To "Respectfully, how many championships did you win and how many winning seasons were you a part of while you were at Columbia?"
I'll address your question respectfully. It goes to my knowledge and expertise per the rest of your note.
I don't claim and never have claimed to be a football/sports genius, just a former Columbia athlete. But I do claim to be a successful business person, manager and logical/intelligent individual. Additionally and unfortunately, extremely few former Columbia players could meet your specs.
I have never questioned any "football" issues here. In fact, I've rarely gone after PM directly. What I have done, very specifically, is to question his record and his manner of treating his players. But almost all my energies have been regarding the scenario which caused this problem; our Athletic Director.
Without her statistically documented incompetence (for nine years)none of this would exist. DM is the disease; PM is the symptom. There are more significant institutional issues as well, but let's not complicate it too much.
If anyone believes that 1.6 Ivy titles per year out of 36 is adequate performance for an AD (last 5 years), then we are clearly not making our case. ButI believe that 95% of the folks here truly get it.
To the parent who asked "how do parents of non-seniors get help?" I suggest the following, which I alluded to earlier in this string.
Provide Jake a detailed and non-emotional description of what you perceive to be inappropriate. It will be kept confidential. He (sorry, Jake, I'm volunteering you) He will assemble the info and send it to the appropriate people. Conversely, I'll be happy to do that as well on your behalf as well. Whichever you feel most comfortable with.
The take-home here is that we want to address this in a factual and accurate manner. This isn't a witch hunt, it's a request for decency and respect.
Hey rich I don't disagree with anyone's view of P or how he treats the players. I totally think if what everybody says is true then it's wrong. I never berated a kid, I always felt it was my job to make it better. Now if your a position coach your opinion and actions don't go so far. I have a problem with all the jerkoff on here who don't have a clue. I wouldn't tell somebody how to run a billion dollar company so why bitch about somebody and their football program? Why embarrass these kids and undermine what the position (not the head coach) is trying to teach?
Above,
Nothing in these posts can embarrass the kids more than what the coaches are doing with them on the field on Saturdays. As a parent, I will inform you that things are significantly worse behind the scenes than what is public. It is a travesty.
No it is a witch hunt...
How much decency and respect have you shown Coach Mangurian and his staff and the team? You have shown none! Zero! You also have shown no respect for the AD and Bill Campbell.
witch hunt
Last two posts must be from athletic staff. This post questioned PMs hiring by AD from the get go BUT gave him every opportunity to succeed and even supported him despite bizarre behavior and questionable practices. This year, the excuses stop, the honeymoon is over. This is because this team is in shambles. THE majority of players despise him and want him out. Witch hunt my ass. You shit your bed, you are gunna have to sleep in it.
My son loves PM, the Athletic dept. and the school as a whole. He hasn't substantiated any of the claims made about abuse and mistreatment. It's the exact opposite. Your witch hunt and lynching party is ignorant and that's why the powers that be are sticking with the coach and staff as they should.
If the administration failures to do address and rectify their mistake in hiring this coach , then the most powerful option is for the players to boycott the program until changes are made. This will get their attention, unlike all the threats of holding back donations etc...I am not a big fan of this option, but if this is what it takes to wake them up, then we should entertain this option as a last choice!
The players are the ones who give it all and they need the support of the administration to do the right thing!
To my son loves PM
First year mom get real its over 50 kids on that team and your son is the first one that I know of that LOVES PM and everything about him.
HMMMMM. Your son my not know the different between PM and a coach that know and care about ALL his players and the game. What player in any sport would be happy with losing.
Three points. First, speak to anyone at Boston. College about Jags, please before you hire him. He was a joke there and a laughing stock of a coach with his antica. He could embarrass the University. Obviously, a friend wrote the piece. Don't swallow everything you read.
Better receivers would have made a major difference on both sides of the ball. The inexperienced receivers were a major problem. Every dropped pass was like a half turnover. The time of possession killed the defense from wearing down and then eventually injuries. This was PM major mistake this year.
Thirdly, the university should fire Tellier. If my son was a junior or senior and I read that the assistant AD of his University went to a writer of a major New York daily to say their student athletes "had no talent" I would be furious. He owes those boys an apology. If he has something to say to them he should tell them to their face. He is an A dministrator at that school and it is absolutely inappropriate that he is running down columbia student athletes as no talent in a major publication. Shame on him! Inexcusable!
The team is not in shambles as you claim. No one is happy about how the season has turned out but that doesn't mean we are in shambles. The only people in shambles are those of you who have nothing to do with the program except complaining about everything. You are making up most of this stuff and it is not helping us as players and as a team.
It most certainly is in shambles.
I do not condone what people have said about PM. I don't know the truth and if he has treated players this way it's wrong. I have no problem with people going after coaches for this behavior. I do however have a problem with all the know it all here. Coaches don't tell you how to run a billion dollar company so stop telling coaches how to coach. The abuse and all I get but stop with the play calling or personnel.
I am puzzled by one aspect of this debate, namely the way that Pete Mangurian treats his players. I am not in a position to assess those charges, and except for the players and their parents neither are the rest of us. But what I, and indeed any individual in possession of a sound mind, can asses is the respective records of M. Dianne Murphy and Pere Mangurian. It we were in the middle of a rebuilding process and saw concrete signs of progress I would draw one set of conclusions. But what we have here is a failed season of historic proportions which can only be reversed with a clean sweep.
To astride the line….most major schools have now gone to am practices to allow players to focus on football an academics separately. When their day is divided between lift, class, meetings, class, practice, class….scientific studies have shown a lower success rate in the classroom and on the field as compared to programs that practice in the mornings and have class later in the day.
As far as getting trampled…maybe your son is not good enough to play college football, and if thats the case I don't believe the current staff recruited him or her.
We were all promised a 4 year plan from Pete, where is it? I don't believe that an 0-10 season was part of the overall blueprint. Can you please explain how and why we got in this position? I'd like to hear from you.
As a football alum, I think that you are a complete moron! I've spoken to several players (that have requested mentoring) and the more I hear about you, the more I realize that why you got let go by Tampa Bay. You have the personality of rabbit pit bull and the intellect of a gnat. Trying to blame these kids, and alums for "not getting it" further reinforces my point. The only people "stupider" than you are the idiots who hired you!
Do us all a favor Pete, move on you moron!
Football Committee, can you please send out a note to football alums on the state of the program? I would like, no demand, to hear from the alumni group in charge of taking our money. Please let us know where you guys stand regarding this season an the overall direction of the program believe that you owe us that much!
CAN WE PLEASE KEEP THIS FORUM SOMEWHAT PROFESSIONAL. IF YOU ARE GOING TO NAME CALL AND BE AS IMMATURE AT YOUR AGE "FOOTBALL ALUM" TO BE CALLING SOMEONE A MORON, AT LEAST PUT YOUR NAME TO IT. I MEAN REALLY, CAN YOU AT LEAST HAVE SOME DEGREE OF CHARACTER. I ASSUMED YOU LEARNED THAT FROM A COACH SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY
If half or even 25% of what is true about pm and his cadre of followers and what they are doing to the kids is true and were a player..I would beat him with his own arms.
I feel bad for campbell since he has given both on the field and off the field, but has been led astray by his followers.
I don't like this coach, I think he lacks skill and any other attribute of a successful coach. You blind followers want to continue his reign of intimidation; be my guest, but I refuse to be a blind follower.
Kids from my high school won't ever consider columbia seriously until columbia becomes serious.
Say all you want, I have played for columbia at the highest level and have had the privelage to be with some of the better coaches, but we have neither a good coach, administration, or alumni selection committee.
Get real or drop the program!
Des Werthman
AND BTW YOU CLEARLY SHOULDN'T BE MENTORING ANYBODY…WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO LEARN FROM YOU HOW TO NAME CALL
Yes, we all learned to be anonymous which is synonymous with blaming the players every week, so we learned from little lord mangurian
Please review my post and you will notice I copied and pasted the comments made by another. I just wanted to know what question was being asked?
For the record, I agree with the early morning schedule and my son's Columbia football performance is considered above par by Mangozo himself. My son's dilemma is doing something he enjoys but with a willful association with a man who really is vindictive and unfair to his teammates. It is along the lines of defending someone you know is guilty, but . . . . . . . . .
In addition, to the parent with the son who loves the Great Mangozo, look closely because his fingers never leave his hands! Oh, and have him watch out for the bamboo once the water takes hold.
Dear ALL CAPS... If the shoe fits...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moron
* 0-10
* He is arrogant, abusive to the upperclassmen, and a dictator to alums (WHY are we allowing him to do that???)
* Harvard scored 106 points in two year (while we scored ZERO)... And they played their 3rd string!!!
* We have not scored an offensive touchdown in 11 quarters, 11!!! (and THAT TD was in "garbage time" against Yale late in the game.
* The O-Line is so bad that they may name a spinal cord injury after it (no offense to the players, you are just not big enough, strong enough, or well prepared - I blame the staff).
The painful list goes on... Can SOMEONE, ANYONE, please tell me the positives that this guy has brought to the table? How about you MR. ALL CAPS? You have to earn respect and he has none!
Spoken like a true anonymous poster.
Another anonymous former "athlete". Laughing because you didn't win either.
The positives
1. We know Nathans is in need of a new selection committee.
2. We know how not to coach
3. We know how not to lead
4. We know how not to treat kids
5. We know how to not win, so we may know how to win if we do the opposite..maybe? Ok that is a stretch, but work with me here!
6. We know their are blind followers of nathans and coach mongaloid.
Well, that is all I could come up with.
Yeah, I lost here. I was part of The Streak and I'm not ashamed of it. I played for 3 Head Coaches (Freshman inclusive), and nobody was as bad as this guy. He makes Garrett look like a nun. Funny thing though, you STILL haven't come up with any "positives" on Pete? Hmmmm...
To of you Football Committee members out there who are so afraid of Bill Campbell, just grow up! You're a bunch of blind sheep! Have a backbone and say enough is enough! You don't have to be The Great Kreskin to know how this movie ends.
As Des wrote, "Get real or drop the program!" Is there a possibility that Columbia - the administration the student body, the physical setting -
really are not compatible with a successful football program?
I hope this is not the case, because a winning or competitive team can really be exciting, unifying, and a great source of pride for the students, and a great public "face" for the university. There's a big difference between schools that have football and those that don't. It would be a shame to see CU go down the latter road.
But there has NEVER been a really successful program at CU. There have been some great players and some great moments, but long term there has never been anything that compares to the other Ivy teams. If it doesn't walk like a duck and doesn't quack like a duck, maybe it's just NOT a duck. Again, I hope I'm wrong.
It's been suggested here that a search for a new coach should exclude anyone and everyone who has previously taken part in searches. With this as a starting point, I think football deserves one last shot. Head coaching and successful recruiting experience are essential. NFL background sounds good to "fans" but is irrelevant and possibly a negative. People skills are crucial -- which does not mean a glad-hander. It just means "not an asshole" with the players, the assistants, the parents, the alumni, the faculty, the opponents' coaches, and the bus driver. And there should be well-defined benchmarks for what constitutes success, how long it will take, and exactly what will be needed in order for those markers to be met.
Yes, at long last and by all means, let's get real. Or....
With regards to "advice given for the parent of players" that may continue to play next year (i.e. not a senior)...thank you for the direction Rich.
Can you please give me the direct contact information of Jake (i.e. his email address) so that we, as a player's parents, can contact him and express our concerns over the issues of this year. And I will add these issues have very little to do with the winless situation of this year except that with each loss the mistreatment of the boys has escalated. If you are a parent of a player who says they have no gripes with the way your son has been treated this year than consider yourself to be extremely lucky because listening to these stories is just a helpless, horrible feeling.
Doesn't the Board of Trustees (Campbell) hire the President (Bollimger) who hires the AD (Murphy) who hires the coach (Mangurian)? An unbroken chain of malfeasance and incompetence.
That is called Communism. Campbell is Putin.
Message to Campbell and Bollinger:
Unless Mangurian is fired, no recruit capable of playing Ivy League ball will commit to Columbia.
This is a joke. This team would lose to a good high school time. There needs to be a major housecleaning, otherwise drop the sport!
The more I read the more I find that we talk amongst ourselves about the ifs/whens and candy and nuts. People have asked what advances we have made and I agree with the question.
So anybody on the selection committee, coaching staff (read you Pete), tell me how things have gotten better. I challenge any and all of you to show me/tell me/change my perception on this program. You Dianne...frankly any of you who have been so successful in our picking of the coaches. Let me make it easy for you as here is my email since nobody wants to put their name on it...dwerthman@msn.com
I challenge you since the defenders of the grail seem to be so many.
To Mitch, thanks for bringing up the former loyola coach. I had forgotten and was interesting to read about his path to greatness.
"I believe that we will win, and soon. There is no “four-year plan”, there is a “win every game, every year, plan” that is reevaluated and refined before during and after every season. Team #123 and I will ultimately be judged by how many games we win. I’m all for that accountability, that is the way it should be. Every season is different, every team is different, every year the competition is different. What you can be sure of is that we have our plan, it is built for our program, and we are executing it."
Pete Mangurian, 3/25/2013
What is murhpy's email and mangurian?

can somebody, anybody articulate WHAT mistreatment they are referring to when saying that the HC or staff is treating our players this way? I have seen and heard this time and again and I have no idea what this really means.
please if we are serious about getting a new coach this issue has to be brought to light or put away as a distraction. the record is enough to go on as to not confuse the issue. and recruiting I know many of the players this year and some from the year before and these are NOT bad football players at all-in fact many have quite distinctive football pedigrees etc... we are simply compete with 6-7 Freshman learning ALL AT THE SAME time and expect to be competitive with the MEN of the IVY league. and Yes, that's on coach
Can you spell slander?
did some investigating
out of 20 seniors, all but 4 have played and mostly started all year.
How can ANYONE accept and defend the performance of this staff and the results it has brought on? I'm mystified. The total failure is so obvious!
Surace had 1-9 teams? Watch the interviews with Surace on the Princeton website and you'll see that Surace is a completely different human being from what we have here. His background has some similarities to Mangurian -- he was an NFL assistant -- but the whole vibe is different and is congruent with an Ivy League coach in the 21st century.
Is it that impossible to find a decent guy for CU? The parade of bozos going back 50 years is amazing. I exclude Wilson from this. He at least seemed like sort of a mensch.
Jake- I don't suppose you have any communication with the moderator of the Ivy Voy board? It's been down since yesterday morning and he might know what's up.
Anyone who doubts that teams with bad histories can be competitive with with the right coaches and committments-- see Stanford, Baylor, Duke, and Northwestern.
can someone please provide me the "Wizard" Bill Campbell's email adress?
He controls the CU levers behind the curtain!!!
We all should be sending emails to Campbell! he is now trying to distance himself from this mess.
To the parent who said his/her son loves PM and the AD: 0ne thing I've read here repeatedly is that PM makes players he doesn't want to play sit in the stands instead of being with their teammates on the sidelines. You must know if this is true or not, so please tell me. Regardless of everything else written by what you call a lynch mob, if that is true then PM should be fired for that alone, and Murphy too.
and I'd say that if the coach were Knute Rockne or Vince Lombardi (or Lou Little).
And this is no lynch mob, just loyal alums fed up with 60 years of losing. You are just the latest set of parents....we've been suffering forever and the buck must stop here and now with Mangurian, Murphy and Bollinger. Look at the W-L.
It's not nice to hurl the term "lynch Mob" especially when at most schools, maybe even a few Ivies, that 's what you'd get, literally not figuratively.

What is a "rabbit pit bull"? Must be a mean dog with big ears. Some of the vocabulary and spelling here make me think our opponents or PM's sttaff are posting. Looks like Alma Mater can't run an elementary school these days, much less a decent football program.
Most of the confusing posts are victims of auto-correct.
Looks like you could use a little proof-reading yourself ("sttaff":)
But a cross between a rabbit and a pit bull seems like a good idea, should take out the mean streak.
My own typos are due to use of a phone to connect to this site. Even widebody galaxy note is clumsy. It is a blogger site issue. It's just not designed for mobile apps. Sux
As for the lynch mob, that is a perfect description. Burn the effigies and bear your pitchforks.
