Day-to-Day work and updates on the Ivy football season will continue on this blog. But to make sure the emergency situation Columbia football and Columbia athletics are under remains on the forefront, the following extremely common sense demands will be posted on top of every new post on this blog until changes are made:
We must:
1) Replace Dianne Murphy as Athletic Director right away
2) Replace Pete Mangurian as Head Football Coach the moment the season ends
3) Bring in an outside consulting/expert group to make the replacement hires and evaluate the positions and effectiveness of everyone in the athletic department.
4) Do NOT allow anyone who has had a leadership position or position of influence in any past hiring process to participate or interfere in any way with the overhaul process.
Also: please look for Rich Forzani ’66 in the upper parking lot overlooking the baseball field on Saturday to get your buttons calling for a true house cleaning in the Columbia Athletic Department.
I had a decent week last week, going 5-0 straight up and 3-2 against the spread.
The highlights were my decisions to pick Brown to win and cover and Dartmouth to cover but not win.
On the season I am now 41-10 straight up and 32-18-1 against the spread.
Now to this week with six more games to pick:
Penn +12 1/2 vs. Princeton
The Tigers are going to win this game, but Quaker pride and the home cooking will make this game closer than it would be anywhere else.
Brown -4 at Yale
The Elis will be taken down a peg big time from last week's huge win. Brown is feeling stronger again and I like John Spooney's chances against the Eli run defense.
Dartmouth -13 1/2 vs. Cornell
The Big Green have nothing to be ashamed of after almost pulling off a big win at Harvard last week. I don't think the team will be down enough to slip against a Big Red team that just has no defense.
Holy Cross +3 1/2 at Lehigh
It's all coming together too late for the Crusaders, but Tom Gilmore and company can beat the Mountain Hawks this weekend and I think they will.
Wagner +14 vs. Monmouth
Monmouth will win this one, but it will be closer than two TD's.
Fordham over Bucknell (no line yet)
There's no line on this game yet, but I think the Rams will beat a suddenly resurgent Bison team in the Bronx. I figure Fordham wins it by about 10 points.

OMG...take Harvard and give the points. This will be a 50+ point spread.
I don't think Penn can keep up regardless of where the game is played. Princeton by 20.
Same with Brown. It's not going to be close. The question is will Reno be chased out of town after the Harvard game?

The answer is "no." Yale is starting a bunch of young players and has actually won a few games. Reno will get time.
Agreed, Reno will stay. He goes in front of the alums and tells it like it is and has a sense of humor. Former players like him and his recruiting is catching alums eyes. People like the guy as do players.
Compared to what people say about pete, "he is a different kind of guy, the team isn't very good, etc."
I like Reno as well and completely believe he is making a good impression. I just know Yale alums have a very short patience factor. The proof of that is how they treated Jack Siedlecki. The only criticism they could make of him was not being able to beat Harvard. They got him fired and got some guy who lied on his resume. Then they didn't know what to do so they asked Harvard for a recommendation. Such irony. That is where Reno came from.
Yale fans and alums can say I don't know what I'm talking about but you know all too well you had a great coach in Siedlecki and you hacked him off at the knees. Columbia should be so lucky to have such a quality coach. We wouldn't mind one bit if all he did "wrong" was lose thre Harvard game.

But Yale will give him more than two years to accomplish the task.

Jake, you should conduct some " exit interviews" this winter with the departing seniors after the season. Unbelievable shit going on. For that matter, DM and Bollinger should talk to these kids.
Memo to all- Columbia Univ doesn't give a S*** about the football program, athletics are considered an unimpotant diversion to its academic mission, Core, etc. This culture will not change unless from the very top. You're wasting your time with all this negatory BS about coaches, AD, etc. You all are just rubbing salt in the wound.
Better talent on the field = more competitive games. Been to several games. Weak links are numerous Very little depth. Not enough solid players on both side of the ball. Several underclassmen will make major contributions next year.

I completely disagree that Columbia lacks depth. I try to watch every Ivy game every week. The one startling difference between Columbia and every other program in the League is the complete lack of player rotation -- especially on the O-Line and the defensive front 7. Some may argue that that Columbia can't rotate because it lacks the depth to do so. I don't think that is the reason. I know a number of players an a number of Ivy League teams -- including the three teams that are vying for the Championship -- and I can assure you that there are kids at Columbia sitting on the bench when kids with equal (or lesser talent) are playing for competitive teams. I suspect that there are a number of folks on this blog (parents and others) who can confirm this. Columbia does not have 0-10 talent.
Tell me what you know about this team. How many games have you attended? How many years did you play?

Being at a game is much different than watching on TV.
I agree that there is good talent on the team, however,
Good opposing coaches can find our weak links by watching previously played games. 3 or 4 weak positions on each side of the ball spells disaster. Imagine a BB team with poor SS,CF, catcher. Non-competitive for sure.
ESPN 2 commentator spotted most of our problems in the first quarter of TV coverage.

CU would have better depth if there was efficient player development. You can have talent but that can only take you do far since the college game and of course pro is all about increasing your learning curve and executing on that knowledge to develop your skills. Pete should be a great teacher. If he was he would have been a great hire. We can all see how that turned out.

In the meantime, I'm a bit sorry to observe the "bitterness" that seems to tinge the posts here. It's obvious to most of you where my opinions are, but under it all, I'm looking for the best for our teams.
To that end, I'll be posted with the "infamous" buttons at my post tomorrow. Come by and grab one. Let's see what we can do to announce our presence and discontent with the status quo to the powers that be.

To Als Wingman,Yes Jack was a good coach, who lost the desire to be a Head Coach.
He was not able to make adjustments.He had a hard time communicting to alums and trustees.
