Marc Raye-Redmond
With recruit commitment season in full swing, I thought I’d
take a look at three players who I would call long shots to come to Columbia.
But, I would be very prepared to give credit where credit is
due and praise Head Coach Pete Mangurian and his staff if they are able to rope
in any ONE of these three players.
Taumoe'anga may be my favorite of this group. He’s a prime
example of the rarest commodity in the Ivy League, a top quality Defensive
Tackle. He’s already enjoyed the experience of helping to turn an entire program around.
A 6-4 WR from Utah, Reading is a go-to guy with more than a
few 100-yard receiving games in his career. You can learn more about him by watching this.
A 5-11 RB from the Greater Cincinnati area, Raye-Redmond
already has an early offer from Brown. This guy would be a great weapon on the
ground and as a receiver out of the backfield.
Okay coaches, go get ‘em!

Jake, it sure sounds like you've conceded to Columbia not firing Mangurian. Changes have to be made somehow, someway.

The Rutgers basketball and football programs have faced numerous challenges. So far, the basketball HC, the AD and several football assistants have been replaced. There are people demanding more changes.
0-10 is 0-10. It is inexcusable that major changes have not taken
place by now. How many other universities or teams would fail to bring in new leaders after two
years in bottom of the barrel results?

As far as I know, Stables is still coming to Columbia.

The Redmond kid looks fast on film. He'd be a steal for Columbia, but I've read he's committed to Brown ?

High lights do not show the true talent of any prospect. Nick Saban and staff
view every play from every game prospects have played before offering.
The results prove that they are doing it right.
Haven't seen where Redmond is committed to Brown. Heard he will be on official here in January.
I would love to see where Nick Saban has the time to view every play of every recruit. I don't disagree he looks at film but by this point the rich get richer. He has 5 star recruits banging down his door. Even a perfectionist as him can afford to relax a little and enjoy life. Football coaches in general need to spend less time away from the job.
See recent 60 Minutes. My point is, that highlights hand picked by the prospect and his dad are not indicaters of the prospects true talent.
Saban only looks at the 80 or 90 of the most likely. You would find the time for the success he has had.
One of main reasons coaches visit prospects is to verify their heights.
You would be suprised how many 6'1"
195 pound kids turn out to be 5'10 and 165.
That's why coaches visit the player's home and school as well as attends a game. They also get a complete game film in addition to highlight footage. When I look at a recruits rivals page or MaxPreps info, I immediately take 1 inch from the height. OT/DL Tom Callahan is a prime example. He is listed at 6'8" on much of his Internet info but is 6'5" in reality. A 3 inch lie. If your a good athlete why lie?
Also, I look at the team roster sizes. For example, the new recruit from NJ that's listed as 6'6" 294lbs is a scary proposition to me. Never heard of his school as a power in sports and his football roster shows the largest defensive lineman at 6' 200lbs. If your practicing against smallish lineman and hell of small linebackers how does that prepare you for D1 football? But I hope that kid can play great!
Just checked out the Redmond kid. Alot of info on the web about him. Seems like he comes from a powerhouse school in OH (4 Straight State Title games). His bio on the scoutingohio site is impressive. His school REGULARLY send 5-10 kids to D1 colleges every yr. If he can start and play in a program like that......lets get him!
