Let's Bring the Lions Home!

If it's cash we need to get a home game, let's make it happen!

Lion nation is justifiably elated today after Maodo Lo nailed a buzzer-beating shot to defeat Valparaiso last night.

Columbia won't find out who it plays next in the CIT until maybe late tonight, but Lion fans should start acting NOW to push for a home game in second round.

The next game would be either this Friday or Saturday night, so a nice-sized crowd is possible. A good number of students who were away on spring break could even make it, especially if the game is Saturday night.

Securing this home game is the least the administration, (which claims to be so appreciative of the home crowds), can do for this team that has played so well this year and the fans who have been so loyal.

If cost truly is the issue, I'll be happy to lead a fundraising drive right on this blog that I bet would put a nice dent in the price.

Let's get this done!

Baseball Almost Makes History

It wasn't almost a doubly amazing night for CU, as the baseball team blew a 7-4 8th inning lead and fell on the road to Texas A&M.

It was still a strong performance considering the competition.

So, I'm very much looking forward to the Ivy in-conference baseball season which begins at the end of this month.

Jake — I think there's certainly an argument that playing on the road for at least one more game helps the Lions more. If the goal is to get the team used to playing high-pressure games in unfamiliar environments, the way to do that is to travel for these CIT games and test themselves. As much as I'd love to see the team play at home again I can see why Kyle Smith would be fine traveling, particularly during spring break.

That said, if they get through the next round I think having the next game at home on Monday or Tuesday is ideal — most students will be back at that point and you could really get a raucous atmosphere going. (Smith thinks the same way: "He added that if Columbia can string some wins together and is still playing when classes resume next week, the Light Blue may consider hosting a CIT matchup." Wait a sec. Didn't they raise an embarrassment of riches with their giving campaign and PrezBo's efforts? That $,$$$,$$$ is for the entire university. If they can't spare 35k to support a 2nd round tournament home game then that is shame on them. No reason to open up your wallets any more than you already have (unless you are that wealthy it is nothing to you).

Peter: I think the fans deserve a home game right away. Imagine if our next round opponent is Yale and the Elis pay for a SECOND home game before we're even willing to pony up for one? What does that say about us? In my days at CU, lots of students were back on campus by the Friday and even Saturday night of spring break. I bet we sell out Levien no problem.

This isn't about speculation, this is about making sure everyone knows - as in advance as possible - that IF it's financial support that's needed, or evidence of fan support that's needed for the dept. to push for a home game, then they have it. And no explanation using that excuse will be acceptable.

Peter makes a good point. Unless it is Yale, in which I would prefer to meet them at home, there is much to be gained and little to lose by having the second game on the road. We have been a better team at home by far this year. Now we are pointing toward next season. Let's get another road game under our belts this Friday or Saturdaymand then being it home for the third game.

Again, unbelievable. What fan base actually DOESN'T want home games? Maybe we should schedule football Homecoming for the at Monmouth game this fall too.

I get the point about toughening the team up, but fans usually, kinda sorta, like to be able to go to their team's games.
