CJ Davis
The Columbia official athletics web site announced today the names of the three players coming to the men's basketball team this fall.
They are Kyle Castlin, Nate Hickman, and Hasan Ismail.
Excuse me, but what about the much-ballyhooed C.J. Davis from local NYC powerhouse Archbishop Molloy?
What about 6-8 Noah Daoust?
Davis and Daoust were touted late last fall along with Castlin as the members of a killer incoming class for 2014.
If we lost Davis and Daoust, we need to find out why.

According to the basketball blog Daoust may have recommitted. Davis is a mystery. Perhaps a PG year. If this were football, and we lost a recruit I would have seen the invisible hand of Bags or Reno at work.
I'm sorry, but what do you mean by recommitted? To Columbia?
Jake, I think Old Lion meant decommitted. Davis may have accepted one of the many full rides he has in his pocket. As for Daoust, he was tall but had no other suitors according to the basketball blog. Maybe he feels he can do better and is taking a post grad year.
No Danny, Old Lion ws referrinbg to Daoust and meant "re-committed" to Columbia, which was reported to have happened this week according to someone at the CU basketball blog who says he saw it online. But Davis' disappearance overshadows Daoust. Wonder if it had anything to do with recent campus safety (rape) issues which Davis' family being in New York would surely know about through their local media.
No back court player could count on many minutes next year with Lo, Cohen, Frankoski, Lyles and Mullins all coming back. And the only gap in our lineup was in the front court. But even there, except for relief minutes there isn't much room for a first year player to see much playing time.
Davis is a major loss, period. It doesn't mean it's anyone at CU's fault, but it's still a loss that we need to learn from... but to do that, we need to know what the Hell happened. It's embarrassing to have the NY Post do a big write-up of a player coming to our program and then have him go AWOL.
In this era, no team really goes anywhere without at least one top-flight big man. We're still depending on a 6-7 forward. Fine player and we'd be in the dumps without him, but still. And he graduates after next season.
Chick is right, Davis is a big loss but not getting a top-flight forward is also big. We'll have to catch up with next year's recruits, maybe Smith already has someone in the pipeline.
Softball coach was fired, not a moment too soon.
Hey, Danny
I'm not flaming you, but understand something. When a loser coach leaves, none of us care. It's only when a competent coach leaves without specific info that we raise questions.
Our AD history re: retention and hiring leaves much to be desired, so it is only natural that the majority of us here desire more than PR claptrap when announcements are made.
Honestly, conspiracy requires a certain level of imagination, guts and ruthlessness; qualities not lately in evidence at Dodge.
Softball is such a fun urban sport to play. I enjoy watching the women's NCAA world series playoffs. So many talented athletes. Unlike when I was growing up where only the burly girls played.
Columbia also has a women's ice hockey program (club). That is GREAT to see. I hope they keep growing.
I am a big women's sports advocate and coached amateur and college teams for over a decade.
Lay off Big Dawg. He is doing more than most with the CAEC.
Old L, your support is welcome.
I actually thought I initially gave Danny Boy a reasoned response, which was my intent, but it's clear from his later posts that I overestimated his maturity.
Danny, after the nonsense I've seen from CU's A dept, there isn't much that offends me anymore.
Danny, you posted a snide comment with the express intent of getting someone to respond to you angrily. Then Dawg answered you maturely, but since that wasn't quite what you wanted you decided to pretend his comment was rash or very angry. It was neither.
This kind of comment-baiting is immature and stupid, and you don't even have the decency to accept that you didn't get what you wanted... so you just pretended you did.
I don't know how old you are, but you're banned for being immature and stupid all at once.
I just read today that Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops got a salary bump to 5 mil (actually 5.25). Obviously, the landscape is much different in the FCS but point is, IF there is a coup d'etat or somehow, some way the powers that be KNEEL in defeat and a remodeled athletics program at Columbia is possible, that is the type of framework they need. Obviously 5 mil is out of the question to pay a HC, but you pay a qualified head coach his worth along with a qualified coaching staff then package that with NYC housing for themselves and their families. That is what attracts applicants who can turn things around. You go another way with qualified yet lower caliber type coaches, they are fighting uphill. You put that money into 1) staff and 2) the tools to bring in the recruits and house them, feed and train them properly. That is a real program. Total expense would be a few mil but that is what it will take to overcome however many decades of neglect and futility. Memo to Ms what's her name. ADMIT FAILURE and SHIP OUT so positive changes can be made. You are a blockade to be removed, nothing more.
