BREAKING: Two Possible Updates

Sources tell me there's a very good chance Columbia will hire a head football coach BEFORE it hires an Athletic Director.

And those sources also say an offer has been made to a "big name coach," although no one can really define what would make a coach a "big name" in the minds of the Columbia intelligentsia.

Getting someone credible in the HC role, communicating with current players and making a hard dash to signing deadlines in Feb would be a big accomplishment.

Jake: interesting- but, then, who would choose this coach? Where would the recommendations come from? Another Ivy League Head Coach?

Jake,
As it should be.
I hope that this comes true.
As I have stated before, "get a good coach and let the administration get the hell out of the way".

I would be worried if we hired a coach before an AD. As Coach inquired, who would be making the decision without the new AD being involved.

If Taylor were part of the coach selection process and also part of the AD selection process I could probably live with that.

Just fantasizing but maybe the one way to bring in a big name is to make that person coach and AD. Has that ever happened in the Ivies before?

Have to agree with you WOF.
Think of the relationship between Rex Ryan and John Idzig- how'd that work out? On the other hand we we do have a (lame duck) AD....

There is also a rumor that Columbia is trying to hire an Ivy League Head Coach.

Rumors, rumors.

The most absurd thing in the world, even Columbia's world, would be to hire an FB coach apriori an AD. Not gonna happen.

Do you not comprehend the baggage and drag any potential AD will be forced to carry coming into the job? Especially FB?

The primary req any new AD will have is to choose the entire FB staff. Oh, and BTW, one of the key reqs of the BOT will be to select an AD who has insight into those correct and effective decisions.

This is balls to the wall time for LB and the BOT. They don't get it right, I personally promise there will be to pay. hell

Dawg,
Let me get this right. Is the Michigan AD picking the entire FB staff?
Did DM pick the last staff?
We need to give the new HC a completely free hand to change everything. A top prospect will not accept the position without that,

Any good candidates outside the Columbia insider bubble must have their reservations and wonder what makes the Columbia situation so dysfunctional. Anyone in any sector who considers applying for a job wonders about the politics and how effective they would be. Changing jobs is a big deal. Who wants to walk into a situation that is set up to fail?

agree with wingman. The problem is a cultural one that starts at the very top. My guess is Taylor spent time discussing that in his report.

Would like to see former Columbia line coach Hal Hunter get an interview- was the OC for Chargers under Norv Turner, coaching now for the Colts.
Northwestern graduate - popular with his Columbia players. Coaches at Vandy , Indiana, LSU, William and Mary. He would be perfect .

So, do we give up or do we change the culture? It was Bollinger who declared when he got here 13 years ago
that he wanted to change "the culture of losing."

It's about time we held him to his word. He could have done a lot all this time but he didn't. He can't do it alone now. He has to first hire a top-notch HC and AD to work on the football part on-field. Meanwhile, he has to work on the culture part.
