But I have to say, Allie's question really says it all. I have always suspected that my fiercest critics and the fiercest defenders of the old football regime were extremely old and out of touch with no real interest in winning or even modern football. The rest were employees of Mangurian or Murphy who weren't even smart enough to cover up the fact that they were commenting here using Campbell Center ISP's.
Jake, I know Miles Austin by name as a former pro receiver. I just had no idea what he looked like or his connection to Columbia. And to call me out of touch and uncaring about winning...well I think most here know that I bleed light blue unstintingly. I'm very disappointed in your lack of real depth, Jake.
You say you know Miles Austin by name but you asked who he was even when I posted his name in the text. Gotcha. You're as dishonest as you are out of touch about football. You have no idea how many fans privately emailed me to ask how someone who doesn't even know who Miles Austin is can be commenting here and disputing all the points stated here. You know nothing and aren't even able to hide it. Thank god the program has moved on from ignorant apologists like you.
Too funny. Allie definitely bleeds light blue, no disputing that, but sure looks like he gave us a little tell about his lack of any real football depth
I was referring to intellectual depth, WOF, a shortcoming for Jake and some of you goons. As for wanting to win, after playing lightweight football for the Lions (I was starting fullback and linebacker, played with Bob Kraft), I played eight years with the Old Blue Rugby Club, a team famous for winning, including several undefeated seasons for the side I played on. For what team did you tie on the cleats, Jake and WOF?
That's the telling stat. The people who have defended the old status quo in the program and been furious with me for denanding better have all been either much older people who are wannabe cronies for Bill Campbell or they were employees of Murphy/Mangurian. The best that crew achieved was to get Rick Taylor to bash me publicly and then two days later Pilling and Co. gave me and the other people born after electricity was invented all the things we had asked for. It was a singular moment proving everything we had said was right and everything the apologists had said was wrong. And sorry, I'm not willing to acknowledge how big a fan Allie or anyone else who doesn't have the guts to identify themselves here is. I've taken a lot of hits for insisting we needed big changes from people without the courage to let us know their names. And yet they want us all to accept on faith how they're such big fans. And yet I still publish every word they write because this is not an echo chamber and I don't think I should speak unopposed. But I will call out the ignorant and disingenuous comments for what they are.
You mean the "goons" who have the decency to identify ourselves AND publish comments like yours despite your anonymous cowardice? This blog and Columbia football are not an intellectual exercise anyway. And while I will continue to publish comments from detractors because I don't want to speak unopposed, I also won't refrain from calling out your ridiculous assertions for what they are. You call someone who does publicly identify himself and takes lots of pot shots for it a "goon" when it is you who anonymously attacks him?!! If this is what qualifies for intellectual depth, I think you need to reconsider. The bottom line is that after years of hypocritically attacking me anonymously for publicly critcizing a failing program, Allie is the only one left who doesn't seem to get that we won! We got the changes! We stood up publicly, identified ourselves, and got results. And we don't even care that we didn't get public credit. The private thanks and relationships we've made with the new administration and coaches have been more than enough. But even as I'm willing to drop this internal battle among fans, (because we won), we still hear from the one wannabe Bill Campbell crony who trolls here anonymously. You lost Allie, and you've also just been caught lying about your modem football ignorance and trying to pass it off as intellectual depth. I'll keep publishing your attacks on me if you like, but why not just accept the truth and stop pestering me and the readers here?
Jake, I just don't get it. Where did you get the idea that I'm a "wannabe Bill Campbell crony"? I could care less about Campbell or any of the old establishment. And I'm as excited as anybody about all the changes! Maybe you have me confused with somebody else?? At least WOF knows where l stand, Miles Austin affair aside. And by the way, is WOF a real name? How about alswingman, Old Lion, Internetter, Mountain Lion, Roar Lion, Ivy Observor -- all real names?? Come to think abou it, how about Novak? (let's get real, nobody in the ol' shtel named Novak). So get off your high horse, you did a good job and I'm happy about it. I love Lion football and have probably agonized over it more than most -- still just football, Bags won't win the Nobel Prize for turning it around, but at least we'll be able to enjoy the games and hold our heads higher.
And furthermore, I was writing to Ms. Murphy about releasing Norries before you even mentioned it. Same for Mango, although I'll admit I felt sorry for both those guys (it's called compassion, Jake, something you GOPers are not especially noted for). When I met Norries out here at a function in LA I told him he had to lose Marini. His response was, "He's okay," (his exact words) and I said "The alumni don't think so," so he gave me a CU football cap to pacify me. When I emailed Mangurian to tell him about a bad play call, he replied vociferously, calling me "one of the ghosts" (some of you may have heard that term from him). I reminded him in no uncertain terms that he was in the Columbia cauldron now and should be ready to take the heat. He emailed me again and apologized for his inappropriate anger. So don't be telling me I'm not a die-hard Lion fan who wants to field a respectable team as much as anybody. Wake the f--- up, Jake! Allie, a True Lion, like it or not.

Looks more like the "Jake" version of Miles. Something about the shoulders.
Who is Miles Austin?
He's a Philadelphia Eagle, for God's sake. So this is not at all funny.
NJ boy made good. Played for Dallas and was a Giant killer. So what is the Columbia nexus?
I believe he is friends with some of our asst coaches.
Could score him bonus points with his head coach too

The funny/ironic thing is that he played for Garrett all those years...
That's right Neila! Coach Chip Kelly started as an assistant with the Lions!

Jake, what's gotten into you? Kinda scary!. And what points am I disputing? Please enumerate.

Miles actually graduated from Garfield HS in Bergen County, NJ, about 20 minutes from Baker Field (with no traffic)

Make that "Marino". By the way, Vinny just landed at Edinburg University as their new OC -- hanging in there!
