For the players, coaches, and the rest of the CU Football personnel, the season starts today as the team reports for the beginning of training camp. Real practices won't start for the next couple of days, but this is where it starts to get real.
Barring any major surprises, it's no exaggeration to say this is the most talented and deep team the Lions have brought into a season in decades. I don't write that to put pressure on anyone. I do it just to state the facts.
New England Grappler
6-3, 300 pound OL/DL Jaden Hinton from Ames HS in South Easton, MA has committed to the Lions. Hinton is also a wrestler, and many of us have long been fans of football players who also wrestle, like the great Lions Daniel DeLorenzi '20 and Lou Miller '10, just to name two.
Hinton will be the first Ames grad to come to Columbia Football.

Hinton looks like a natural NT; I can’t seem to find any information on him, however. The video that I saw has him as an OL, in which he looks like a real mauler going against smaller players. Physically he reminds me of Thor Griffin, but if that were the case he would have been flooded with offers. Hopefully we have a real diamond in the rough here.
Another new commit-Levi Robins, from Scottsdale, a CB; also offered by Yale and being recruited by Michigan; 2 star but could be a good one
As a proud U.S. Army veteran, I am delighted to see that U.S. Navy veteran, David Garland, has just been added to the Columbia Football Roster. Garland served 7-1/2 years in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri. Garland, who stands 6'2" 230, was an all-conference defensive end and running back at Glendale High School. Columbia University has done a nice job of providing educational opportunities for veterans of the armed force. We will be rooting hard for U.S. Navy Vet, David Garland.
Bill Beechum '06 also wrestled during his senior year.
