It's Getting Busy

REMINDER: I'll be posting my Ivy League preview/predictions later this weekend and my detailed analysis of Columbia Football 2022 a few days after that.

Here are today's key updates:

CAPTAINS NAMED

DL Mitch Moyer, OL Stew Newblatt, LB Scott Valentas, and RB Ryan Young have been named team captains for 2022. One of the best points about the guys chosen is that at least two of them, Newblatt and Young, could have left the program as graduate transfers this year if they wanted to. Clearly, their commitment to Columbia is seen as a major leadership quality.

BAGNOLI SPEAKS

There's a new mini-interview with Head Coach Al Bagnoli about how training camp is going. There's understandably no serious info in there, but it's good to hear him talk anyway.

NEW COMMIT

Hugo Merry

6-3. 210 pound PK/Punter Hugo Merry from Frederick HS in Frederick, MD has committed to the Lions. He looks like he has some serious leg power.

According to my LionFeeders database, Merry will be the second Frederick grad to come to Columbia Football, and the first since Alex Cornish '12.

WHAT TO WATCH

If you like scouting Columbia's future opponents, then tomorrow is your day!

Week 1 opponent Marist is hosting week 2 opponent Georgetown tomorrow, starting at noon ET.

The game will be available on ESPN's streaming service ESPN3.

Wagner Makes a Game of It

Meanwhile, week 4 opponent Wagner made a game of it last night hosting Fordham last night on Staten Island. The Seahawks held a 21-14 lead over the Rams (who are picked to come in second in the Patriot League this year), before the defense gave way en route to a 48-31 loss. Fordham QB Tim DeMorat passed for five TD's and 386 yards. Wagner QB Nick Kargman struggled; going 13 for 32 and two INTs.

Updated heights and weights up on the roster

Significant weight gains where it really matters namely on the offensive and defensive lines and at the linebacker position. Columbia's offensive line averages about 300 pounds with Zach Minch the biggest player at 325. Also, having a 6'6" 270 veteran tight end will make Columbia's huge offensive line even more potent. This could be the biggest and best Columbia offensive line ever.

I see that huge John Martin has been moved to DL, and he has gone down from 375 to 345. Any reports on how he has been handling the transition?
