Columbia will see Brown's new Field Turf for the first time
Columbia Lions (4-4) at Brown Bears (3-5)
November 12, 2022
Kickoff Time: 12:00pm ET (THIS IS THE CORRECT TIME! THE TIME IS THE CU PRESS RELEASE IS WRONG!)
Game Time Weather Forecast: 69 degrees and partly cloudy
The Line: Columbia is favored by 4 1/2 points, the under/over is 54 1/2
TV/RADIO: The game is available on ESPN+
Leading Story Lines
1) Both teams went through emotional extremes last week with Columbia winning a stunning victory at Harvard Stadium and Brown getting destroyed by 52 points at Yale. The team that tempers those emotions the best will have an advantage.
2) Both teams still have some key milestones left to shoot for. Columbia can still secure a winning season with a win at Brown and then a victory in the 2022 finale at home vs. Cornell. Brown can avoid a losing season and go .500 with a win vs. the Lions and then a victory at Dartmouth.
3) Both teams will be led by senior QB's inserted into the starting slot because of injuries. Caden Bell seems to be easing into the role as best as can be expected. Brown's Aidan Gilman has shown plenty of skill.
3 Columbia Players to Watch
1) DB Bryan Bell Anderson will be targeted frequently by Brown's aggressive passing game. How well he responds will make a major difference.
2) Brown's poor run defense will likely have their hands full with RB Ryan Young, who has a different body type and running style than anything the Bears have seen before. Young has had strong games vs. Brown throughout his career.
3) PK Alex Felkins put his name in the transfer portal this week for next year. With the game likely coming down to a FG or PAT, it will be interesting to see how focused he remains.
3 Brown Players to Watch
1) WR Wes Rockett has one of the best names in the Ivies and he's also one of the best receivers. This could be his last game at home.
2) LB Isaiah Gamble will be a big part of what you'd expect to be Brown's intense efforts to improve defensively after last week's debacle at Yale.
3) DB Isaiah Reed is the other Isaiah in this defense and he's good at covering the pass and rushing the passer on blitzes.

Lions by 4.5 today according to the odds makers. Jake's points well-taken with regards to the effect of last weeks results on Mo-mentum. Lions should be able to run the ball well today providing they show a little imagination-can we not try a few runs outside the tackles ? Looks like weather will not be as much a factor as feared though, hoping that wind gusts affect those deep Brown passes! Take the points and run baby run.
Let's get that Mojo workin'!
Go Lions!!!
Obviously meant give the points, LOL !
Where are all the Al and Fabish bashers today?
Great OT win after Brown had all the 4th quarter mojo.
Great team win. Taking a look at all the Ivies, dare I say I predicted that there may be a 2 loss team that wins the Ivy? Very strong possibility as both 2 loss teams in Harvard and Penn look to spoil a championship clinching game for both Princeton and Penn. I would definitely love to a 4 way tie of teams finishing 5-2 in league plays in hopes of the league creating a designed Championship game for tie breakers so we can gave sole winners.
In OT... 1st play ...run into the line... 2nd play 2 Yard Terror. KEY Play a pass DOWNFIELD OVER 10 YARDS! That Fabish is amazing! It took only 9 games to throw donfield! How can anyone criticize him after 3 points in half 2!
We showed a lot of guts in playing a great OT after a pretty lame 4th quarter.
I didn’t see Justin Townsend today. Hope he is back for Cornell.
Some things are just amazing. The final score was 31-24 and the over/under was 54 1/2. I want to meet and talk with that oddsmaker!
Justin Townsend batted down 2 passes resulting in 1 interception , and recovered a fumble. JT also made a big play on 3rd down chasing the Brown QB down causing him to throw another interception. JT was in the game.
Thanks. My apologies. Not sure why I missed him.
GREAT win, but should never have gone to OT. Awesome job by the DBs! Loved the way that Caden was slinging it! He looked smooth and he had swagger (confidence, not arrogance). Great game plan Fabish and the staff! If (when) we beat Cornell and go 6-4, it will be great momentum going into Spring practice (and will help for recruiting).
If Penn beats Princeton and Harvard beats Yale, there could be a 4-way tie for the tile. If PU beats Penn and Yale beats Harvard, 2-way tie for the title. I think that is correct? Nevertheless, we should have eaten Penn, Dartmouth and Yale! Until next year...
This year's grading...
RBs - A- All set for next year, good depth. Give D'Orazio more responsibility.
WRs - B Too many dropped balls and need more than 1-2 guys that can separate
QBs - B Impressed with Caden's perseverance. Green needs Caden's wheels and swagger.
O-Line - B With all of those seniors, should have been better. Still, above average. Need to develop younger guys and need (quality) size and athleticism, like Yale.
TEs - C Need to be able to separate, catch and run. Blocking was okay.
DL - B+ Overachieved, great grit!
LBs - B+ (see above)
DBs - C Don't blame lack of pressure. That means you don't know the game. Too many of these guys miss tackles and when they are close, they tackle with their backs. Please wrap up! Need taller and more athletic DBs that can face off against 6'2" WRs that can run. We have Hobbits for DBs and get beat far too often on long yardage situations.
Special Teams C - We lost three games due to poor kicking/punting and lack of execution. Think about it, THREE games!!! This should be a priority in the off season.
William Hughes has been GREAT as the emergency punted--without him we would have dropped the last two games. However, we need a second kicker to replace Felkins who has entered the transfer [portal. Recruiting a second kicker must be considered one of our top three remaining recruiting priorities, along with a second quarterback and a monster defensive linemen.
Does anyone have a comment as to why CU went for it on fourth and four at the end of the game? We had a three-point lead, and a field goal would have made Brown get a TD to beat/tie us?
just sayin'
Please read the Spectator article on the game.
Bags pulled the FG team off the field when Brown called a timeout.
BTW I saw a definite pass interference on the next play in the end zone when the Brown defender had his helmet in the face of the CU receiver and never played to ball!! (I am, of course, biased.)
Another bad call- Canty was mugged in the end zone and the official closest to the play threw the flag. Then another official came over and they picked up the flag. Our coaches were mighty upset, with good reason.
As far as passing up the FG, I think all of us expected more from Felkins this year. He has been good on FGs, not great, so maybe that has entered into the calculus.
robert, this is by far the best reply on this blog ever!
That was not a bad call. I was there and had a close up view of that play. Correct call was made
Great win.! Now let’s get one more to close out the season. Something to build upon for next year. Go Lions
Really important final game of the season with Cornell. Our passing game has improved dramatically in the last two games. Bell has developed quickly into an excellent quarterback and his receivers, Canty, Libman and Jenkins, are also outstanding. I doubt there is a more dangerous group of wide receivers in the Ivy League. More than that, if Cornell only thinks pass defense, Joey Giorgi will burn them for sure.
Must second the praise for “Good Will Punting”! Stepped up and answered the call, stabilizing a very challenged unit in dire need of consistency. And what an answer his has been! Hughes’ 44.4 yard average (gross) on his 15 punts would lead the Ivy League (if our SID would report it), would be 6th in FCS and top 25 in FBS!! Not certain our Will could solve the linear algebra problem from the movie - but I’m not betting against him!! For the record, I am NOT Will’s dad nor any relative. Never met the kid. Just love watching him own his moment. Bet there are a few more gems just like him buried on the depth chart.
