Poppe's Poppin'

 Jon Poppe

It didn't seem like a coincidence that former Columbia defensive backs coach Jon Poppe has broken into the ranks of head coaching by assuming the leading role at Union College, the same school where Al Bagnoli began his head coaching career.

Now, Poppe is getting the attention of his new players thanks to his energy in training camp

While the succession plan for Columbia Football coaching has obviously changed with Bagnoli's sudden retirement, Poppe was often mentioned as a possible future head coach for the Lions. His stock will rise or fall based on what he's able to do at Union.

The Dutchmen moniker thrown on the slag heap!?!
But why?? It must have offended the youth of old Schenectady!
O tempora, o mores!

Good luck to him at Union, but why write about him? I would prefer to hear about what our current assistant coaches are doing in their respective roles.

I always wondered why he returned to Harvard as an assistant instead of staying at Columbia.

“ 5) Give interim Coach Mark Fabish ALL OUR SUPPORT as he undertakes this sudden emergency duty.”

But rather than follow your own advice, you are boosting a guy who: 1. Hasn’t even coached in one game yet as a HC, 2. Left Columbia 5 years ago and then got the Union job…so not even directly from CU to Union, 3. Was not as well liked as you claim…remember the 2019 OT win when our entire team was celebrating and clowning him, 4. You have plenty of CU internal subjects to talk about, and therefore actually support the Lions.

Maybe you have a bias to Poppe based on the fact you have mentioned him in the comments before too. Maybe this comment will be removed by a blog administrator as well.
