Multiple sources confirm to me that the official news conference to introduce new Head Coach Jon Poppe will be this Wednesday afternoon in the 2nd floor lounge of the Dodge Fitness Center and will be open to the public. The exact time has not been confirmed.
I'm sure we'll get some of the questions about what Poppe's staff will look like during that news conference, etc.
The response to Poppe's hiring has been very positive from every one of the members of the team I've heard from since Friday. That should play a role in convincing a decent number of players with options to return to Columbia next fall, as opposed to using their remaining year or years of eligibility elsewhere.

Forgive me for sounding overly optimistic, but I see coaching greatness in Jon Poppe, the pride of Upper Saddle River.
I am concerned that the recent Hamas inspired left wing wacko protests will hurt recruiting.
I don’t think those protests will affect recruiting at all. Protests are nothing new at Columbia. They’ve been going on for decades and decades, just different topics. I don’t think incoming recruits care anymore about these current protests than we did about the causes of the day when I played at Columbia in the late 80s
That's a reasonable concern given that after the similar left wing inspired protests of the late 1960's, Columbia was never able to recruit the same quality of athletes it had before the riots. Basketball is a perfect example. Immediately prior to the riots, Coach Jack Rohan successfully recruited several of the greatest basketball players in Ivy League History including Dave Newmark, Jim McMillan, Hayward Dotson, George Starke and Stan Felsinger. After the riots, the big name players went elsewhere

Sorry for the ignorance as an outsider, but genuine question given some comments I've seen here--while the general Columbia student body leans politically left, do the football players typically lean right?
If you think 17-18 yr old football recruits are even aware of things like this or, if aware give, a flying f*** about it when it comes time to make a decision on what school to go to when offered an Ivy League degree, you are sadly mistaken. Start looking at what affects recruiting through the lens of a teenage boy rather than a grumpy old man who watches too much cable news.
I like how “patriotic” rounds out that group, as if it were somehow on par with “intelligent” and “sane.”

All the Ivy League schools are left-wing with progressive tendencies. However, you can bet many of the protesters on the Columbia campus were not students. The 60 minutes piece did not even touch on the composition of the crowd. Regarding recruitment, I agree with the above poster that this latest noise is not so important in the decision by prospect. You guys all know there are multiple factors, including the opportunity to contribute and play immediately. Another would be does the recruit want to play in New York City, Hanover, Ithaca, Providence. I guess, as has been noted in the past on this blog, we may lose out against HYP going head to head for a specific player. Even though there are probably a finite number of players who qualify for admission to Ivy League schools, there are enough to go around for Columbia to continue to bring in talent. My hunch is that playing under the Poppe regime will be fun/exciting. I bet the Union guys had a great time this season. I cannot say that was the case for the 2023 Lions, especially the offensive unit.

Graduating on time, playing another year elsewhere and pursuing a grad degree seems to be a better deal than sitting out the last semester as a senior and returning in the fall for another year of CU football. Thoughts?
Really depends. Ability to land an engaging internship for spring/summer really helps. Also how many of your classmates plan to return. Congrats to those in portal who land scholarships to pay for all or part of a masters degree. And for those that dont hoping they return en masse to complete unfinished business
Why beat a dead horse? CU football was a disaster in the 20 the century. Even the first 15 of the next. Eldo brought us mediocrity and sub Ivy mediocrity (Expensively: 14 million). Some of us were thrilled. Today we say goodbye to the losing/ mediocrity. Welcome Coach Poppe! Let the future bring us to the land of Ivy Championships!
