All of last season, I predicted that longtime Harvard head coach Tim Murphy would retire at the end of the season.
But November and then December came and went, and I figured I had been wrong all along or maybe Murphy decided he wanted one more year after the Crimson fell to Yale in the season finale.
Well, it pays to just be patient with your predictions.
Murphy announced his retirement earlier today, he had been the head coach since 1994.
I know Harvard has had a legendary history, but I still think Murphy was the team's best coach of all time.
Of course, another story is that over the past year the Ivy League has lost all three of its most senior and legendary coaches in Al Bagnoli, Buddy Teevens, Tim Murphy. Of course, David Archer at Cornell is gone too. This makes Princeton's Bob Surace the new dean of Ivy coaches.

Does Al Bagnoli emerge from retirement yet a second time? Maybe Mark Fabish expresses an interest?
Obviously, deciding to retire two months after the season is less than ideal, but it sure beats, walking away less than two months before the start of a season.
It will be interesting to see whom the Cantabs select.
Joe Conlin, Fordham HC is a front runner I expect.
One might think they want to keep it “in house” and pick Mickey Fein.

This is a blow to the Crimson losing someone like Murphy. This should bode well for the rest of the Ancient 8 and it is good thing that we signed up Poppe because I am certain he would have been on Harvard's radar.
I bet Poppe wishes Murphy retired before the end of the season and taking the Columbia job.
Why?
Simply because it's very easy to win at Harvard, Columbia nowhere as easy.
