6-0, 160-pound WR/DB Benjamin Bruce from Trinity Christian HS in Lubbock, TX has committed to the Lions.
Bruce also had offers from Navy, Marist, Stetson, and 3-4 others.
Bruce will be the first Trinity Christian grad to come to Columbia Football.

In announcing his commitment to Columbia, the recruiting service, 247 Sports, lists him at 5'11" 170, His highlight film confirms him to be a very fast runner with remarkable jumping ability. If he can add some weight I can see the Lions using him asap as an outside running threat with the ability to score from anywhere on the field. Otherwise the Lions will probably use him as a wide receiver. Overall, he seems to be an excellent pick-up for the Lions.
My guess is that the coaching staff sees him as a WR who might also see playing time on kickoff and punt returns. It will be interesting to see where he fits in our new offense. Do you think he is faster than Dante Miller?

As far as his size, I had a chance meeting with Garrett Wilson’s father the other day. Coincidentally, he said that coming out of high school Garrett was maybe 5’11 and around 170 pounds. His 40 at that time -4.48. His best sport was basketball ( 25 D1 offers) but he believed in himself as a WR and gambled by going to OSU. So don’t sell anybody short based solely on size.

Interesting post about Garrett Wilson--Hutch Crow seems to be that type of guy-not very tall, but tough and talented--led the entire State of Texas in receiving yardage before he was injured--Crow and his fellow Texan, Benjamin Bruce, are both gamers--it will be interesting to see what type of offense Coach Seitu Smith is planning to implement this fall at Columbia--my guess is that there will be lot more motion and maybe even some triple option
There isn't a triple option quarterback on the roster.
Call it what you may, I can see Coach Seitu implementing an entirely new offense at Columbia. Let's see what he comes up with and then you can pick the moniker.

Stan, interesting thoughts. What leads you to thinking we will be doing triple option. Are you referring to new triple option (RPO with read option on the run)? There is actually a QB on roster who can handle that, good quickness, good ability to throw on the run, can keep plays alive with his ability to scramble - kind of plays like kyler murray. I hope he has a great Spring and takes advantage of a fresh start!
I'm thinking all of the QBs can execute RPO with the run component being w qb or rb. Some probably more agile than others, but all of their tape in hs shows them execute some type of qb read run game. Some are more RPO vs others more RRO Run (RB) Run (QB) option. They all have ability to be functional and productive as a runner.
Regarding the RB, is Joey Giorgi coming back? I assume we will have Malcolm Terry II as well. I would like to see a big back for short yardage but don’t see one on the current roster.
Yes, I am thinking of something like the read option on the run (RPO) although I have to admit that like most Columbia fans I have very little idea of the capabilities of the returning QB's as only one of them saw any action on the field last year and that was for only a minimal amount of playing time. However, I do share your understanding that at least one, and possibly several more of the returning QB's, are athletic enough to run a read option type offense. Also, as a long-time fan of Columbia Football, I am very excited that Cole Freeman is transferring into Columbia from Northwestern. Cole is a New Jersey guy (Delbarton) and, we oldtimers know, that Columbia's only Ivy League Title was won in 1961 with a New Jersey guy, the great Tommy Vassell, as our starting quarterback.
Caleb Sanchez had this type of receivers they'd make a good match. Can't wait to watch them out there!
