Princeton Game Notes

Leading Story Lines

-The Lions haven't beaten Princeton since 2017 and have lost 11 of the last 12 meetings, nipping almost every season's hopes in the bud In the process.

-Both teams are trying to prove their real identity after inconsistent performances from week-to-week so far.

-Both teams get their starting QB's back after playing without them last week.

3 Lions to Watch

-QB Chase Goodwin #15. Will he be as accurate as he was in week 1? Will he be as mobile as he still recovers from a deep knee bruise?

-CB Carter McFadden #23. He has a huge target on his back as opposing QB's have targeted him obsessively in both Lion games so far.

-RT Noah Jordan #77. He will need to protect Goodwin and seal off lanes for the running backs against the usually stingly Tiger defense.

3 Tigers to Watch

-WR A.J. Barber #86. He's one of two sons of former NY Giant Tiki Barber now playing Ivy football. He's also a good target as a receiver and a lethal kick returner.

-DL Colin Taylor #95. He'll be the one hardest to block as Princeton looks to harass Goodwin all day.

-LB Marco Scarano #2. Will play a big role in the Tiger hopes to stop the CU run.

Spot on Jake, as usual. I don't understand why Poppe and Stovall , don't just replace Mc Fadden as a db. Let him be the punt returner, exclusively. Those with good memories know that despite his All Ivy Honorable Mention, he has made many poor punt return decisions.

This game sets the tone for the season. Hoping the Lions can establish a run game to take the pressure off Goodwin and make for manageable third down situations !

Very good comment about the necessity of the run game. Also, on the other side of the ball, don't get caught in the blitz.

Jake great comment on the right tackle playing guard. That will surely confuse the tigers. Also great comment on our #1 cover corner who Coach Sto intentionally leaves on an island almost entire game. Boy we are so lucky to have your in-depth analysis of the x’s and o’s

Yep I miss typed Jordan as a guard. Fixed it.

Hey replier, not sure why you’re such a McFadden fanboy. He’s definitely been picked on in both games by the opposition. Not sure if you’re just in denial about that, but regardless, Jake’s not pointing out anything even remotely controversial.

The facts speak for themselves in re McFadden

Anonymous said...

No, just dumb

Seems like we’ve struck a nerve re: McFadden. As someone I respect greatly has often said to me, “The truth is an absolute defense.”

Someone comment on the DBs behind McFadden please. Who are they, why are they better, anything...?

we still have not gotten out of the predictable 1st down run.

What a gutsy call to go for it on 4-5!!! Great TD!

what do we need to do to replace Fitzgerald on the broadcast? he's awful

Tremendous O line play. Outstanding running. Most of all, terrific coaching to make the 2nd half adjustments that blew P'ton away.

Statement win for the Lions and Coach Poppe. Congrats from North Carolina!

And what would that prove? That we should not be playing “cupcakes”? We should be concerned that we come out of that game without any injuries. The “true” season awaits us. We should be about meaningful wins, not beating up on schools with total enrollments smaller than many New York City high schools.

What about Mr. “Solving the riddle”?

A great win all around. Our play in the second half was incredible. No turnovers, a great game plan, excellent play from our QB, a phenomenal second half from the offensive line, a fantastic running attack, super defense, and 28 points after halftime! Congrats to Coach Poppe and the team. Let’s keep this train rolling! I’ll be at the Penn game in two weeks.

Lionssssss Winnnnn

Nerve striker, you are the man! Didn't you also predict BEFORE the season? 6-4! True genius!

Joey Giorgi is a true running back; follows his blocks, is patient, finds the holes; reminds me of a Giants RB from the 1980s, Rob carpenter—excellent balance and great cut back runner.

Bags loved it; spoke to him after the game.

Any intel on Townsend's and Canty's condition? The former seemed to walk off mostly under his own power. I was there but missed Canty's. Hope they're both ok, as much for their leadership as their apparent (and abundant) skills. The parents', fans' and players' gathering after the game was joyous, as you'd expect. Goodwin just exudes quiet confidence. Everyone seems to feed off it.

Win or lose. I am always proud to be a Lion!!!

I met Justice Gorsuch at a booking signing. Realizing that we both graduated Columbia College, he wrote in my book "Roar Lion Roar". His latest two books, "A Republic if You Can Keep It" and "Over Ruled", are both worth reading.

Great Lions 🦁 win !!! Defense play really good.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Can’t take originalists seriously.

Anonymous said...

Yeah he is a tough listen. Great W today! Chase is the real deal.

Canty will be fine, probably will sit out next weeks game as a precaution. Townsend's injury could be a little more serious, looked to be something knee-related. Best case scenario he sits out next weeks game as well.

Dad - come on you told me you would stop posting like this. It’s embarrassing

Some great blocking in pass pro too!
