Senior S Hayden McDonald was named a finalist for the Bushnell Cup/Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year award, as many of us expected.
But senior WR Bryson Canty was not named a finalist for the Offensive Bushnell, which I believe was a snub. Canty made a material difference in a number of Columbia wins and played on a championship team while the other two finalists, Cornell QB Jameson Wang and Penn RB Malachi Hosley did not play for teams that even posted winning conference records.
We'll find out if McDonald becomes Columbia's first Bushnell winner in 41 years on December 16th.

Neither of the players did anything of note when they played Columbia. Wang in particular laid an egg in Cornell's final game, while Giorgi had a statement game to cap off his career. Mosley did nothing against our league-leading D.
I think Canty is an incredible talent — he showed amazing athleticism in making great catches all season but we have to remember that these are team games so I don’t know how fair it would be to minimize an individual’ stats because the team was weak. I haven’t looked at the defenses of Cornell and Penn but I suspect they weren’t too strong. Canty definitely played a key role in the Lions success this season hopefully he will have a shot at playing on Sundays.
Canty is the most talented offensive player in the IL and is going to play in the NFL. He missed several games due to injuries and had to adjust to 3 different QBs. Wang and Hosely did precious little against us. So Canty was robbed, to be sure, but if he had played a full season with the same QB he would have been a lock for POY.
could've, should've, would've.....the bottom line is Canty wasn't a consistent enough contributor to get POY - talent notwithstanding.
If Columbia doesn't give Wang a ring, that's a snub. No chance Lions win title w/o him. 7-8 int's in last 3 vs CU I think? POY? laughable.
Canty has NFL potential but scouts think that's he is too brittle?
Wang has NFL aspirations. “Asian Assassin” his moniker!
McDonald has to get DPOY; he had an incredible season.
Feel badly for Canty. If it’s any consolation, he has a real shot to play on Sundays. Wang should not have even been in the conversation. Above average athlete, below average QB. He’ll never play another down of football.
