An Oklahoman

Bewley Wales

6-5 285 pound OL Bewley Wales has announced his commitment to Columbia.

Thanks to Twitter, we're way ahead of where we usually are this early in the year in identifying recruits. At 15 confirmed names, we're basically halfway done and it's not even February.

You can see Wales' highlight video here.

Wales was named all-state honorable mention by The Oklahoman newspaper.

Wales starred for Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa and will be the first documented player from Metro Christian to play football for Columbia.

ok, that's enough. We get it - rebuild the OL. How about they pull in some DBs now. You still have to defend.

Jake, could you please edit my comment (second post) about Bewley and take out the first four words, "For a good laugh," and start with "Catch" (just cap the C). I don't want to seem like I'm making fun of a future Lion great (and delete this post entirely if you don't mind, thanks).

alawicius, I'm with you on Bewley's pick-6. I have no doubt that he'll be a force for us in the trenches, but his transmission definitely favors the lower gears.

Gotta think some of these kids are going to play some defense, what is that around 10 o-lineman?

That's got to the be case because we're not seeing any DLs committing. Unfortunately, some of our sister schools are beating us out for DL talent, Cornell for one. Happily, some of our OLs played both ways in high school.

Thanks, Ungvar, I needed that.

PS. Bewley's astute drop-back coverage and tremendous grab, plus the fact that he made it all the way to the house, certainly atone for the rather measured gait he displays in that clip. I suspect that the shock he received on suddenly finding the ball in his hands may have momentarily depleted his resources (but not enough to discourage his rapturous endzone celebration). Roar On, Bewley! (By the way, from what I've seen so far, I think we're winning the "great-names-game" recruiting battle, Bewley Wales obviously no exception. This may augur well for the future, let us pray.

I am not a coach or any kind of expert but in the highlight videos of some of the RBs and OLs I'm seeing strong attributes like speed, evasion, strength, persistence. I'm guessing that it takes very good coaching to transfer these talents to the tougher college level. That's my fear. Do we have it?

Seeing the recruiting list each year builds optimism - normally. This year it doesn't seem to be building the optimism, and we all know why. How does PM get evaluated in 2014 other than record? My thought is the retention of the rising juniors and sophomores on the team that he recuited. Also, these young recruits are being sold on the value of a Columbia education, because given the past few years' records, they can't be sold on a turnaround during their career.

His Hudl clips show he also plays DL. No surprise there.

This kid is not the most athletic guy out there but he could work out if they actually coach him. No blustery tough guy talk from Pete, coach these kids to play. Thus far we have not seen stability at OL under Pete and Argast. If Argast is not up to the task or is hindered by Pete's micromanagement or something else then this is all for naught. There has to be a few impact freshmen on the line and a surprise or two in the backfield to stand a chance.
