Spring Thoughts and a New Commit

Westchester QB

James McCauley

The Lions got a late add to the commitment list as 6-2 205-pound QB James McCauley from Archbishop Stepinac HS in White Plains, NY announced his decision on Twitter this weekend.

McCauley will be just the second-ever commit from Stepinac despite the school's very close proximity to Columbia.

The reported commit list is at the bottom of this post, and the official list should be released any day now by the athletic department.

When that list comes out, I will make the changes to my invaluable Columbia Feeder Schools database

Spring Practice Conclusions

I don't pretend to have any real inside info on spring practice, but you'd have to be blind not to notice and point out some key facts fans should recognize right now:

1) It happened

Columbia didn't even have a spring practice last year. While that was a true testament to the ability of the coaches and players to get ready for a season and go 7-3 on the year, it's just great to see that the players got that extra preparation and refreshers they need.

2) Green in command

The practice sessions and the spring game added to the certainty that the Lions don't just have a talented reigning Ivy Rookie of the Year with Joe Green at QB, they have a definite team leader ready to show all the extra things he can do in year two.

3) A few things under wraps?

There were a few new players making an impact and a big showing in the spring game, but we also didn't see too much of a few Lions we expect to be prime time players in the fall. Chief among them was WR Bryson Canty, but there are a million good reasons why the coaches can decide to hold off on overexposing a player in the spring.

Joe Green was throwing beautifully at the spring game. He looked great. We just have to keep him on his feet.
