I'd be very surprised if Harvard-Westlake only has placed six players on Columbia's football team. They send players to the Ivy every year. Are you only counting Harvard-Westlake as an institution, and excluding its predecessor Harvard School?

It's not a great football feeder to the Ivies. This database is accurate. http://lionfeeders.blogspot.com/

Can't wait for football season.

Time to fire Engles!

As per the last comment, we were skunked on the all Ivy MBB team—not sure if this ever happened. Not even an HM. So that means the other coaches are telling us that we don’t have even a single player on our roster who can even make the third tier of all Ivy teams. In other words, we have the weakest roster in the IL and it isn’t even close. Yet the silence from Pilling, currently deflecting attention from this debacle by hamming it up with Meg and WBB, speaks volumes. Isn’t the message simple-both coaches have been here 7 years, one is a winner, and the other is…let’s just say, a disappointment.

Congratulations to WBB on a historic championship season, and an opportunity to gain an NCAA berth. which should help with recruiting going forward. The silence from MBB and/or the AD regarding yet another noncompetitive MBB season speaks volumes.

Lucky Jim can't seem to get himself fired. Meanwhile, the rest of the league laughs at us and prays for us to keep him so that everybody else has a few guaranteed wins.

As noted in several other folks' posts, WBB is in a far better place (thank goodness). Congrats to the Lady Lions and Coach Griffith! My understanding is that before this year the women's team had never won an Ivy championship, so talk about a transformation! I'll be rooting for WBB to win the postseason league tournament.

I won't be following the men's team or giving that program any money until Engles is fired.

You've never given a penny to mens basketball

Anonymous, you are incorrect. But thanks for playing!

I sincerely hope our née University
President, a lady from England,, is an
improvement over Bollinger, a lifelong fanatic for “affirmative action” rather than the search for academic truth and
knowledge in an open atmosphere for all.
This seems extremely doubtful considering Bollinger’s appointment of Hillary Clinton—at the same time yet—
as a “university professor” of something
or other. I think it was “public affairs”.
At lest Bollinger is leaving us with a
big belly-laugh since Hillary, though
totally unfit for any job, is an expert
on her husband’s countless public
affairs.
That rumble you just heard was
Alexander Hamilton turning over in his grave.

Tough loss but the woman's BB team but they seemed to have lost thoer edge late in tue season. In recent weeks they werent the high octane fast-paced offensive team that fed off tenacious defense and rebounding. They are mediocre in the half-court game.

I am still bullish on the future because we have some excellent returning players and The incoming recruiting class is our best ever.

Baseball took 2 of 3 from #18 Alabama this weekend!

Thanks for the good news about the
Incoming class. CU Athletics Dept.
reports ignited whatever Harvard did
to hold Abby Hsu to four points.

It has been an outstanding season for WBB, and perhaps a strong run in the WNIT (but 64 teams?).

Didn't take promo by Athletics Dept. to influence coaching strategy. Harvard simply took Abby Hsu out of the game, and somewhat depleted, they nearly took Princeton out.

We could see cracks forming as the team folded under pressure in front of a packed house against Princeton. Under similar circumstances nearly lost it to a weak Cornell team that we crushed up in Ithaca.

Victory over Harvard at Ivy Madness would likely have secured the NCAA tourney birth.

I continue to be impressed with Ivy athletes who somehow juggle these demands coupled with the academic pressures.

Bonus item: For a good vibe, recall the men's CIT championship, and check out Maodo Lo's fade away to top Valparaiso. Maybe we'll see the same for WBB in the NIT.

Also, check out all the men's coaching vacancies. Army, American, NJIT, Holy Cross, Bucknell, more. Read the statement by Holy Cross AD, reported in the Worcester, MA paper. Reads almost like the Columbia men's situation, including seven years.

Jake- I'm surprised that you haven't said anything about the scholarship lawsuit. It's a potential seminal moment in Ivy football history.

Anonymous said...

We may have been overconfident and looking past Harvard. Plus Hsu could not hit water in the ocean. Great but streaky player who gets out of her zone. Book on her is pretty obvious.

NJ Lion said...

Thanks for the info about Holy Cross. It looks like the leadership there wasn’t satisfied with failure. That’s in stark contrast to our AD, Peter Pilling, who has said nary a word and who seems content to let Lucky Jim try for his fourth straight cellar-dwelling finish. The inaction and the refusal to fire Lucky Jim send a clear message that failure is perfectly acceptable at Columbia.

Pilling needs to be forced to fire Engles, just like the administration was forced to fire Murphy (soft firing) and Mangurian (unceremonious firing). He will not do it because the power structure behind basketball apparently lacks the financial clout to force the change and Engles lacks the common sense to spare all of us further embarrassment by resigning.

What does "the power structure behind basketball apparently lacks the financial clout to force change" mean? Please explain. Thank you.

"the power structure behind basketball apparently lacks the financial clout to force the change". What does that mean?

Prayers for Buddy Teevens and the Dartmouth football team as a whole. One of their linemen passed yesterday as well.

St. John's, IONA & FDU have ALL moved swiftly to replace and fill the HC position. Yet Columbia's head BB coach, with one of the worst career W-L records in Division 1 BB, remains firmly in control of the program. Another miserable season ends and apparently, the nightmare that is the mens BB at Columbia will continue into the 2023/2024 season.

NJ Lion said...

If I’m the coach of any other team at Columbia, I’m getting the message loud and clear that any potential failure I’m responsible for will have absolutely no consequences for me. Or does that apply only to Lucky Jim?

Anonymous said...

We don’t have the back story. Coaches with marginally better records have been fired for less. I am starting to believe the Sherwin rumor.

You people are tarnishing Jerry's name, based on a nonsensical story that a guy made up.
