Some of the Schedule Mystery Solved

Looks like my refusal to believe that Columbia would only have four real home games in 2023 was justified.

Our previously scheduled Week 4 matchup at Wagner has now been wiped from Wagner's schedule (and Wagner is not happy about that, btw) leaving that week open for a likely home game that would bring the Lion home date total to five.

I'm not sure who that opponent will be, but it could be Marist since the Red Foxes have also not yet released their 2023 schedule.

I do know it will not be another local school, LIU. The Sharks schedule is already out and does not include CU.

If Columbia is refusing to honor a return game for Wagner, it's hard to blame Wagner for being "not happy."

Whatever we do, please do not go back to playing Fordham.

It's time to bring Fordham back. If we're afraid of Fordham, we're not going to win an Ivy title. Let's pretend we're women's basketball and challenge ourselves in our preseason schedule.

Fordham is not a good opponent. The atmosphere is very bad for a visiting team. In addition, the Fordham game cost us two starting QBs who were both badly injured. It is a scholarship school which has a real chip on its shoulder when they play us. I will play any other PL team but I really am opposed to resuming what for Fordham is a grudge match when they play us. And when it comes early in the season after they have played 3 or 4 games it is even worse. Our consultant back in the immediate post-Mangurian wake told us to drop Fordham.

Some Options I see base on CU open dates ...

Marist Open on Oct 7
Saint Francis has an open date on Oct 7
Butler, Davidson, and Dayton have a number of open dates that work with CU's schedule. Might be a little far for them.

St Thomas in Minnesota doesn't seem to have a problem traveling and are available on Oct7 :)

Would love Saint Francis instead of Marist. Much better competition that would test the boys early and better prepare for tougher Ivy schools.

Didn’t we play and beat St. Francis on the road five or so years ago? I seem to remember a breakout game for Ryan Young.

My suspicion is that our Athletic Director is trying to push around our football coaching staff to schedule Fordham probably for financial reasons.

Our AD should keep his hands off of football and fix MBB instead.

I don't think football would have a problem playing Fordham. Coach B even mentioned to me in a conversation that he didn't know why CU and Fordham didn't play more.

I don't have the history with CU that many of you here have. But as a parent who loves rivalries, I would love to see CU and Fordham get some games on future schedules. Looks like Fordham is fully booked until 2028 (at least that's what I have seen)

We lost Sean Brackett in the first game of the season against Fordham, and he was never the same. We lost Brett Nottingham in his first game of the season against Fordham, and he was never the same. As I said these games were grudge matches for Fordham. Losing two very talented QQBs against the same opponent over a several year span was enough for me.
