Brendan Jones

6-2 225 pound LB/DE Brendan Jones from LBJ Early College HS in Austin, Texas has just announced he is committing to Columbia, where he will likely play Defensive End.

Jones previously committed to the University of Texas at San Antonio, but then switched to Princeton in November. Now, he has switched again. Hopefully, this will be the last time. 

In addition to Princeton and UTSA, Jones had offers from Dartmouth, Cornell, Army, Navy, Air Force. Fordham, Lehigh, and many others. 

He was featured in a local news piece last summer for his workout regimen during COVID lockdowns. 

Jones will be the first LBJ HS grad to come to Columbia Football.

Two More and a Remaining Mystery

The incoming 2021 freshman class recently added two more public commitments, but one name is still eluding the fan base.

The first new commit is a 6-3, 180-pound kicker, Matt Werd from Lakeland HS in Lakeland, Florida. Werd will be the first Lakeland grad to come to Columbia Football.

Oki Hautau

Next up is 6-2 285-pound DL/OL Oki Hautau from Palma HS in Salinas, California. Hautau will be the first Palma grad to come to Columbia Football, and only the second player from Salinas, after Scott Dudley way back from the CU class of 1987. 

That leaves us still wondering about who O-line Coach John Mclaughlin was talking about when he tweeted on January 16th that Columbia had added a "monster from the Pacific Northwest." 

We'll keep looking.
