Coming off some quiet days for Rosh Hashanah, today’s Roar Lions 2025 Podcast will include the first of two Georgetown game previews, the fans’ guide to going to a Columbia Football home game, and my picks for week 5.
I went 2-0 straight up and 2-0 against the spread last week to bring my season totals to 8-0 SU (1.000) and 6-2 ATS (.750)
Now, the games I have to pick get much more numerous and it also gets harder.
I’ll go through a list of eight games for this weekend in this podcast.

The CU Athletic Department has just released the two-deeps and full game notes for the season opener at Lafayette, and there are indeed some surprises.
One of those surprises is a big one that completely flew under my radar until just this week… and I still didn’t know the full extent of it until just now.
Yeah, it has to do with the man in the picture above.
I’ll go through the highlights and more in this podcast.
Meanwhile, Lafayette has released it’s weekly game preview video which contains some mistakes about Columbia’s personnel but no egregious errors.
Bruce Wood of BGA and BGA Overtime was my guest for this one-hour plus podcast looking back at the last 40 years of Ivy Football, but also including our look at what to expect from Dartmouth, Columbia, and the rest of the league this year.
Bruce and I agree, the talent level in the league this year is off the charts, and it should be a fun season!
(I apologize for the somewhat tin-like quality of the audio, but iPhones get annoying when the phone recordings go over 60 minutes. Believe me, this was worth going over 60 minutes to do)

Yale is my pick to win the Ivy League this season, based on all the usual looks at personnel, coaching staff, etc.
But it’s also based on how things turned out for the team last year and the motivation that will provide this season.
And then there’s a major elephant in the room when it comes to the QB position.

Columbia’s three out-of-conference opponents were all in action Saturday, and I have a brief look at those results.
Also in this podcast, I’ll set lay out what you can expect for the next few days on this space as we gear up for the season opener this coming Friday night. My podcast schedule will include one very pleasant surprise.

I’m picking Dartmouth for second this season despite the loss of a massive number of All Ivy players to graduations and transfers.
I explain why in this podcast.
And, as always, for the best info on Dartmouth and a lot about the rest of the league make sure to check out Bruce Wood’s BGA blog and SUBSCRIBE to his BGA Overtime site!
Oh, and FORGIVE me for leaving out standout Dartmouth kicker Owen Zalc from the podcast audio! He is the best kicker in the Ivies and can be the difference between some wins and losses for the Big Green.
Andrew Aurich
I’m a big time outlier here, but I’m picking Harvard to come in 4th in the Ivies for 2025.
After another 3-0 record of straight up picks and a 2-1 against the spread record last weekend, my totals for this year so far at 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS.
In this podcast, I have only two games to choose from this weekend before the Ivy slate begins and the plate gets bigger.
In honor of the new re-packaging efforts for the great film 8: Ivy League Football & America, and of course the impending start of the season, I spoke with filmmaker Erik Greenberg Anjou about the film, and all that’s changed in the Ivies since the movie first came out in 2007.
Naturally, one of the biggest changes in the league is the ascendance of Columbia as a winning program. But our conversation talks about so much more.
Enjoy!

When you think about Penn Football these days, the things that are missing from the program stand out more than what’s still there….
Does that not make sense to you?
I will explain in this podcast, as I pick the Quakers to come in 5th in the Ivies this year.

Time now for my pick for 6th in the Ivies this year, and I must say that it’s not easy to pick a program like Princeton to repeat as a 6th place tem after finishing in that slot last year.
But I’ll explain why and more in this podcast.
This is NOT new starting QB James Murphy!
My pick for 7th in the Ivies this year is Brown.
That may be a gloomy outlook. but someone at the Brown Football office either has a sense of humor or is just really careless because this is the picture you see when click on new starting QB James Murphy’s roster page.
But that’s all the laughs I have to offer when I break down the challenges facing the Bears this season in this podcast.
