Ryan Larsen & Joe Green
With yesterday's news that CU QB coach Ryan Larsen has been named the new head coach of D-III Carnegie Mellon, and DB coach Andrae Murphy taking the Dean College head coaching position last month, the Lions now have two coaching vacancies on the staff.
I enjoyed seeing the nice back-and-forth on Twitter yesterday between Larsen and CU QB Joe Green. I think you will too.
These two job openings should be attractive. The new QB coach gets to work with the reigning Ivy Rookie of the Year and a very mature Green. He will also get to work with speedy and strong Gabriel Hollingsworth, who gave us a nice appetizer last season as a tough running QB. Finally, there are some impressive newcomers arriving like A.J. Simpkins.
The secondary is more of a challenge with the graduations of Ben Mathiasmeier and Will Allen, and the transfer of Jordan Colbert. But we did get the good news this week that Fara'ad McCombs will return this fall, and that means he, Bryan Bell-Anderson and Seth Parker will bring their considerable talents back to the back line in September.
It's also reasonable to think that three winning seasons over the last four seasons will bring more top quality applicants for these jobs.

RYAN YOUNG has been Columbia Football's best running back, play for play, since he arrived as a freshman. That he is returning is absolutely sensational!

Aaron Brebner, the freshman defensive back from Georgia, who was our gunner on punt returns in 2021, is a player to watch for in the secondary next year. My understanding is that Brebner and Dante Miller were the two fastest players on the team last year. Another solid freshman defensive back is Lucas Mireur who played for Texas high school powerhouse Westlake H.S. prior to coming to Columbia.

Pardon the digression, but why is football doing so much better than MBB? Our MBB program seems to be in free fall; we are no longer competitive,suffer from a huge talent gap, seem outcoached in every game despite the talent disparity, and appear to be stuck with a coach who seems like a nice guy who is on a perpetual honeymoon.
The MBB coach should have been replaced after the 2019 season! Believe his overall W-L record is the worst in the IL and the 2021/22 season continues to be more of the same. The question is.......why is the AD continuing to support a coach who has managed (or mismanaged) to take the program to perhaps the lowest point in recent history.
He's got to go. We have four wins, one vs. a D3, and seems unlikely we will get another one this year. 1-13 in the Ivy? Old Lion is right - we have a large talent disparity with the rest of the league, which speaks to poor recruiting and retention, but we also have lost a remarkable number of close games over his six year tenure. He has a terrible record in games decided by one score or OT. The coach doesn't steal any wins for us. He inherited a healthy program and has run it into the ground. Time for a change.
