Set Your DVRs!

We already knew Columbia's Ivy opener at Princeton on Friday September 30 was going to be broadcast nationally on ESPNU, but today we learned Columbia is continuing its tradition of putting some home games on the SNY network again this year.

Those games we be the week 2 home opener vs. Georgetown on September 23, and the week 5 Homecoming game against Penn on October 14.

The games on SNY represent a nice commitment Columbia has made to get more games televised, especially at the local level. While SNY is available on many cable systems nationally, it is mostly a NY-area station.

The rest of Columbia's games will be available on ESPN+.

Lafayette's football schedule does not show any TV coverage of our season opener. Our football schedule indicates that the Lafayette - Columbia football game will be shown on ESPN+. Hopefully, ours is correct.

Unfortunately the Lafayette game falls on Rosh Hashanah; bummer.

As you noted, Jake, it does seem that the Columbia Athletic Department is determined to expand upon the game day television coverage of Columbia Football Games. That's a wonderful thing and will be great for Columbia Football. For years, Columbia sports fans have been wondered why the Columbia Athletic Brand had not been more highly touted in the New York Metropolitan Area given the demographics. My expectation is that this step forward by the Athletic Department will be a bonanza for Columbia sports this year and into the future provided that the Athletic Department does the necessary to make local fans tune into the games; e.g. hiring both an outstanding announcer and analyst, and making sure that there is a band playing music throughout the game. Yes, Columbia needs to come up with a band quickly whether from the student body or from the community. Finally, the Athletic Department needs to contract with a marketing agency that will secure big-time national advertisers for the broadcasts rather than the local crap we have seen in the recent past. This is a big opportunity for the A.D.

Hopefully the band is going to be better than its last few years; it was great in the 60s!!!

Any camp surprises yet? Roster moves? Last minute additions or heaven forbid subtractions?
