Ivy Power Rankings

Jackson Proctor

1) Dartmouth

Hear me out on why they're #1 despite Yale's victory over a more impressive opponent: The Big Green usually start out a little slow... at least in the fundamentals department. This team with a lot of very experienced talent looks 100% ready now.

2) Yale

The Bulldogs went into Worcester and were the better team in their win over Holy Cross. The offense was especially impressive with a new QB starter and no Josh Pitsenberger.

3) Columbia

Very sharp Lion win over a ranked opponent.

4) Penn

The Quakers almost pulled off an upset over Delaware. The defense was particularly impressive.

5) Harvard

The Crimson could have won their game against Stetson by 70-0, but took their feet off the gas. But Stetson is Stetson.

6) Brown

The Bears struck early and cruised to a win at Georgetown. Hard to gauge where they are just yet.

7) Princeton

The Tigers lost convincingly, but shot themselves in the foot plenty too. Be ready for a rebound soon.

8) Cornell

Getting blown out by Colgate bodes ill for the Big Red ahead of a rematch against a Yale team that wants to avenge last year's loss.

Third for us seems about right, at least for the moment. I’m looking forward to going to the Penn game—it’s gonna be a battle! But first let’s take care of Georgetown et al.

The stability of the Ivy League is quite something compared to the nationwide chaos in conferences these days. Stanford in the same conference as Syracuse? Rutgers now playing conference games vs UCLA? Air Force likely jumping soon to join Army and Navy in a conference with East Carolina and Rice? Strange times.

We had the best win of the weekend. I know that we don’t want to crow about it, and that Jake is trying to manage expectations, but if the only true measure of relative strength is how the various teams did against the quality of the opposition, then we clearly had the best win and should be #1.

HC may be a better squad than Laf. At least from what I have seen on tv. Deleware may have been toughest opponent of weekend and Penn’s effort there is impressive. Our Lions’ performance was also impressive

The Ivy league looks very balanced again. I for one plan to enjoy each week as they come. Let’s follow up a great week1 with a great week2. Something tells me Georgetown will bring their A game

Georgetown is a classic trap game; we need to avoid looking past G’town to Princeton. But on the road against a non-league opponent which lost to a mediocre Brown team may give us a problem. Poppe knows this and will have our guys ready I assume.

Now might be the time to throw the Bubble Screen at G Town! Ooops I forgot that that staple is no longer in the playbook! Go Lions! Let the Poppe Era continue!

bye bye bubble screen

Please lay off the old regime, bubble screen and all; show some gratitude to Al and his team for saving our program and for giving us the foundation to hire a Poppe and to recruit and retain some of the excellent upper class men on this year’s squad. In other words, Let’s show some class.

2 MILLION a year bought us 20-29 and we are not allowed to comment?

This is one of the very few sources of useful information on Columbia football. Anyone interested in the program relies on this and probably IG for info. That included parents and recruits. To continue complaining like a whiny baby about a recent coach is unseemly. It's a bad look for the program. Great win last week and a great vibe around the program right now. Focus on that and the bright future.

My theory is that the trash talking is not by a Columbia person—usual subject of course is a Penn guy

Or a daddy of 6th string qb!

haaaa probably

But Bags was 20-29 in the IL for us. That’s hardly “saving the program.” The poster’s not wrong. I’m excited about Poppe, but I think it’s valid to complain about shortcomings of previous coaches. I think we’ll beat the Hoyas in DC, but I expect a tough game.

I agree! Don't get me started at some of the incredible hires at CU.

Sorry, but wasnt the program on a path to breaking their own futility record? How many wins in 2 seasons before Bags hiring?

Ok, you dont have to build a statue to him if you dont want to. But Bags and staff do not deserve the scorn dished out here. Win or lose you had to come to play against this team.

When my kid was considering Columbia I was dubious to say the least. After a spring day visit and conversation with Coach Bagnoli I remember telling him that I have no idea how many games he would win as a Lion but I can tell you you wont lose games because the coaches dont know how to run a program

Focus on the future. Poppe too knows how to run a program. Now it is up to the athletes to perform. Columbia football fans are fortunate to have 2 highly competent head coach hires in a row!

14 Million still only =20-29

You were 3-27 though

Mango!

Mangurian was definitely the worst football coach in the history of the Ivy League. Interestingly, he was 3-7 in his first season at the helm, as was Fabish (for whom that would be all she wrote). Bagnoli was 2-8, and he finished 35-35 (20-29) at CU. I have a feeling Poppe will do (a lot) better than all of them in his first season!

As Jake has mentioned, the program is in a lot better shape these days.
