Ivy Power Rankings

1) Harvard

The Crimson dodged a bullet at Penn and now it's all about The Game. A win vs. Yale and Harvard owns the Ivy title all by itself.

2) Dartmouth

The Big Green's setback at Cornell was a but of a surprise, but look for a strong finish against Brown at home.

3) Columbia

The Lions have bounced back every time they've looked down for the count. Now they have an actual chance to tie for the Ivy title.

4) Yale

The Elis are looking stronger every week.

5) Cornell

The Big Red became truly relevant this year and have one more game in the Jameson Wang era to make a bigger mark.

6) Penn

The Quakers could have salvaged much of their season with a win over Harvard last week. As it is, this was a very disappointing year for a team many thought could win it all.

7) Brown

The Bears used to put it together every few years for a title run under former Head Coach Phil Estes. It hasn't happened yet under James Perry.

8) Princeton

This has been a year that Bob Surace and company will try hard to forget. Don't expect any miracles for Princeton at Penn Saturday.

Penn plays AT Princeton

For whatever reason(s) Dartmouth played miserably against Cornell at Ithaca last week. The Dartmouth offense was absolutely awful and Dartmouth's defense was non-existent. I would assume that Dartmouth didn't expect much from Cornell after the Big Red was crushed by Penn. As for Harvard, the Crimson were outplayed by Penn until the last minute or two of the game. My power rankings are 1. Columbia; 2. Penn; 3. Yale; 4. Harvard; 5. Cornell; 6. Brown; 7. Dartmouth; and 8. Princeton.

I think Jake has this right; if we take care of Cornell and Harvard and Dartmouth both lose, then I would agree that we can and probably should leapfrog over them. But as Capt. Pat has said on Captain’s Corner, both of those teams not only beat us, but they pretty thoroughly outplayed us.

Fair point. But if we take care of business and Yale beats Harvard, where does that put the Elis? If that game is close (and Dartmouth squeaks by Brown), then I might have the final rankings as 1. Harvard 2. Columbia 3. Yale 4. Dartmouth. I still think Yale is the best team right now, but obviously it’s about the whole season (and they still have to beat Harvard). If Dartmouth crushes Brown and Yake beats Harvard by more than two touchdowns (and we win convincingly, then who knows, lol.

Didn’t Harvard’s QB Jayden Craig go out of game in 1st quarter last week. Is he injured?

Dartmouth was called for several major penalties very early in the first half of its game with Cornell. The penalties hurt Dartmouth badly. Dartmouth's defense was also penalized numerous time late in the game against Columbia. I would describe Dartmouth's defense as "undisciplined."

I appreciate your comments and your sincerity. I will simply say that your power rankings are so far off and unjustifiable. No logic. Penn cannot be #2 and Dartmouth cannot be #7 based upon season performance. Say what you want about Dartmouth's horrendous effort in Ithaca. Actually, our Lions cannot be #1. A Yale victory at Harvard and a Columbia victory over the Big Red would jam all four of us at the top for final power rankings (Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth). But screw the power rankings at the end of the season --- I'll take the co-championship, baby!

If you watch the final portion of the 3rd Quarter and the 4th quarter, you will see the Big Green looked overwhelmed, wiped out and lacking the will to play. Looked like they didn't feel like playing in that 4th quarter. Note from earlier in the week: Wang still had three interceptions and I believe the team had limited rushing yardage. Look for him to wing it on Saturday even if the wind plays havoc.

I'm told Jaden Craig will play Saturday and start.

Can’t wait to see what Stovall has cooked up for Wang.

Anonymous "Power Rankings" mean Jack Sh1t. Harvard is in first place in real life.

But they won’t be after they lose to Yale.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. They’ve been very lucky one too many times. They’re very good — no debate there. But so is Yale, and I just think the Crimson are due for a bad game and/or some bad breaks. HC, Dartmouth, Penn all could have been losses. It’s time for Harvard to lose on a last-second field goal.

Thanks for the update

Power rankings, whether anonymous or not are jack shit at the end of the season. What we do not want to see on Saturday is a blast from the past - “Harvard beats Yale 29 to 29.” I believe based on all of the above, and the results this season, that we will see a three-way tie for the Ivy League championship!

We lost the Dartmouth and Harvard games because our offense never got going. Our defense was good enough to win both games.

Agree

Defense did not play great in either of those games (I’m sure aided by the overall talent of both offenses). I might share the above sentiment if opponents were held to 17 points or under. Fwiw I think players would agree they gave up more than they should have

I do wonder how both the D and H games would have turned out if we were able to score tds on first half opportunities. Again, the opposing defenses did have something to do with that

Columbia was moving the ball against Dartmouth when Goodwin went out. Our defense, however, could not stop the run.
Nevertheless, Columbia play was not good against Dartmouth or Harvard.
Hoping that Sanchez will be able to throw in the wind.

Had we scored early in either game, especially a touchdown instead of a pick against Harvard, I believe we’d have seen a totally different ballgame, so to speak. It’s amazing how big a role momentum plays in football. A Captain Obvious comment, I know, but it really is true.

Agree. Several impressive drives halted by penalties, an interception that went right through our receiver's hands, missed field goal and a long ball that was challenging to catch, but should have been. All part of the game. Didn't execute when we needed to.

There were no scores for both of those games ( D&H) because was staggered on both games. Yes we missed FGs on that games but that also happened this past weekend against Brown but we still found the end zone. And let me add there was no InT which change the outcome of those games.

Anonymous said...

Really hard to compare Brown to other games given Brown’s defense is very bad.

Anonymous said...

Their unis are horrible

Anonymous said...

Half the league’s D isn’t exactly stellar.

Anonymous said...

Brown and Cornell are bottom 3 defenses in league and Harvard and Dartmouth are top 3 defenses.

Anonymous said...

To “There were no scores”: what point are you trying to make? It cannot be discerned. What does “staggered on both games” mean? Nobody said any particular missed opportunity “change the outcome”. Is English your first language or are you simply uneducated?

Anonymous said...

Are you high? We got crushed by Dartmouth

You must be a dad.
