BREAKING: Ivies to Finally Join FCS Playoffs

ESPN College Football reporter Peter Thamel is reporting that the Ivy League has finally agreed to send its football champion to the FCS playoffs.

This is a LONG time coming, and some of the best news I've heard in sports in decades.

More details are yet to come, but Thamel reports that the Ivies WILL get an automatic bid to the playoffs.

Peace in the Middle East is next. (really).

What if there is another 2 or 3 team tie? IL playoff?

This is a good move. I never understood the rationale why we allow our athletes to compete in all other playoffs except for football... It looks like they will figure out a way for tiebreakers so we wont have to worry about an Ivy Championship game.

Lots of talent back next year with 2 outstanding QBs and one excellent one. Glad that Fabish won't be able to screw it up

Hope the jagoff commenters such as 2 above wont be around either. Enjoy holidays with your “made it up to 4th string by senior year” sonny-boys

Jake, can you please find a way to get rid of the last poster who has distinguished himself in the past year by calling everyone but himself a "jagoff."

What is the impact on IL recruiting now that private equity wants to take stakes in college football?

I’ll play this game. Interested in your responses. “ What will be the impact on Ivy League recruiting now that the football champion will go to the FCS playoffs?”

I will say very little. It's a nice bonus and every kid wants to play in the post season and for a title. It seems unlikely that many previous kids have turned down an Ivy to go to another FCS school because of the playoff. Again, it's a big deal to be in the playoff and it helps the league but the Ivy League value proposition has always been strong without it.

^^^This. The odds of a kid giving up a roster spot at an Ivy to play at another FCS school I suspect would be pretty low. The league joining the playoffs will bring some further excitement and can boost the league if our champion does damage in the playoffs and win a national title.

There were a few teams in the last 10 years that could have won one, if not two games in the playoffs. Hope that next year’s champ is a strong one to make a positive first impression

I also wish the league played 12 games. Again, don't think a kid is choosing a FCS school in another league because of this but Ivy kids should get more games. Playoff is great but more games would be even better. Maybe the league Will eventually realize that more games means stronger schedules which helps in the playoffs.

How about eleven or twelve games so that we won't be waiting to start our season when most other teams have already played two or three games. There is a big disadvantage when your first game is against a team that already has played two games and knows what works and what doesn't work.
