Griffin Johnson
My latest mini-podcast (they will get longer as we get closer and into the 2025 season) is a short preview of the position group I think is the biggest question mark for the Lions right now.
Columbia’s running attack goes into 2025 needing to adjust to the graduation loss of Joey Giorgi ‘25, who finished his career as the number 2 all-time leading rusher in program history.
I’ll take a look at who’s coming back in this position group and the newcomers.

Great podcast, Jake. Replacing Giorgi will be a major challenge, ironically, because he was so good and yet so good at staying below the radar, slithering his way to the second level with such finesse he made it look easy. He also often got better as games went on, as if biding his time for the D to tire just enough that his moves and grit became even more formidable. And he was nothing if not sure-handed. Johnson and Terry will have huge shoes to fill, but they're each talented, experienced and tough as nails, and should do fine, especially if our very talented QBs lead a potent air attack and the O-line plays to their considerable potential. I ask myself, am I really describing the same college team that once lived, if mostly died, by sleight of hand and mis-direction? BTW, Johnson reminds me, favorably, of Greg Abruzeeze, apologies for the misspelling, for those who go back to those days. Just give me the rock or tell me whom to block.
I think "who" to block would be better, but thanks for reminding me about Abruzzese, those were the days.
Giorgi was a special back and a lot of fun to watch.
If you were an English major, it's "whom", when it's the subject of the verb. If you're a poster on a sports blog, it's whatever.
