I was previously unconvinced, but the commenters who are in support of Coach Fabish seem to be making a stronger argument with every game. The team looks flat and unenthusiastic today. I recall the last time the Lions hosted Georgetown and posted a 30-0 victory. I’m still in support of Coach Poppe and his staff, but hope that Pilling gives an honest look into having Fabish return to the program in some capacity. Just my two cents as an avid fan.
Forgive me if i am missing the sarcasm. Exactly what “capacity” do you envision for Coach Fabish? Is he an astute game planner? Is he renowned for genius in game adjustments? What precisely did he bring to the team in 2023 that demands his presence at this time? His ship has sailed. He had his chance, albeit one that was gifted him. He failed miserable. “See ya. Wouldn’t want to be ya.”
People forget too quickly. Fabish inherited a mess and built the foundation we’re still benefiting from. He took Columbia from absolute irrelevance to at least competing, and anyone who lived through those years knows how much fight his teams had. Poppe has had success, but let’s not act like it came out of nowhere—he’s standing on groundwork Fabish laid. Say what you want, but Fabish gave this program heart and grit when it had none. Some of us haven’t forgotten that.
Agree. But let’s not act like he’s much better than Poppe who is also working hard to maintain that tradition. We are in 2025 and Fabiah era is long gone. Let’s move on!!
It is hard to forget the ineptitude. Have you no recollection of Princeton, or Brown, in 2023? What should he be hired as, “the Grit Coordinator”, “the Foundation Building Coach”, “Head Relevance Assistant”? Spare us. If you need carfare to attend Peddie Prep games, so you can cheer on your idol, (or maybe your brother-in-law, or second cousin, we can start a “Go Fund Me” page for you.
The hostility in the comments is uncalled for and not what Fabish nor Poppe would want. Whether you like Fabish or not you are a fool not to recognize his contributions to the Lions success and disrespecting his legacy is shameful.
If Poppe ends up not working out and we want any chance of getting back Fabish we need to make sure that we are not disrespecting his years of dedication to the program. If I were him and read these comments I would say good riddance to this program.
If you’re considering donating money, I’d point you to Bob Gilmartin’s new cancer foundation, WeCancer.com. Coach Gilmartin was Columbia’s longtime strength coach, and I actually saw Coach Poppe talking about it at the game today.
Oldlion continues to be an oldfool. Piss off with your brown nosing Fabish. You Fabish Fanatics are all morons and should go to petty prep where your idol Fabish continues to prove to be completely incompetent. Piss off and stop with your moronic comments.
Stovall doing a good job with the defense. Gang tackling, a real strength. Secondary much better than last week. lbs on the ball too. D line looking good too . My only complaint? The 3-4 defense allows too many rushing yards and doesn't put enough pressure on the
We still have some work to do: receivers are not in synch with QB; run defense is porous; problems with the defense getting off the ball on third down; short yardage offense especially inside the 5 needs work. Pass defense was a strength; excellent goal line defense; Crews is a nice surprise on kickoff returns. Kicking game also needs work—missed extra point, two bad punts, kickoff out of bounds.
Targeting rules are absurd. Newton had no option. He’s filling the hole, rising to make a tackle and rb is lowering his head to run thru tackler. 10 out of 10 LBs would do the exact same thing every time. Rule definition needs to be modified. It also needs to be applied to offensive players as well.
All you Fabulists, I have a proposal: you take Fabish and put him in charge of any other Ivy team, and I’ll put my full faith in Poppe at the helm for Columbia. Guarantee that Poppe’s team would smash Fabish’s. The people who think Fabish should come back are also the ones who think the Manchurian candidate was simply unlucky.

Can you remind me what Fabish’s record was as head coach? How many Ivy wins? Sorry, no lifetime employment for coaches who can’t cut it.
Not great but we win by 9 in a game we were favored by 10.5. Defense bent but didn't break and only gave up 10 points.

Piss off
Troll. This is 2025 and Fabish had his chance and didn’t get us nothing. Poppe has an Ivy League championship in his first year.

Your obsession is bizarre.

First decent comment in this thread.

QB
Mix it up more with the 4-3
I agree. Umbrella D worked well in qtr 4 though.
Fabish!?!?! Very funny. Does Columbia now have a major in circus clownery?? Fabish is a high school kinda coach. Best of luck to him.
Well said!

Some questionable play calls by coaching staff in short yardage situations, especially in the red zone. First year wildcat QB looks OK
Bad targeting call on Newton—means he misses first half of Princeton game. what is Goodwin’s status? What about Keller?
Didn’t Columbia win the Ivy League last year? Bunch of frustrated dads on this site
When will Columbia get on the level of D/H/Y? These teams are consistently good

You are exactly right. The 3-4 defense allow Lafayette to get good yards on so many carries.
Old Lion is an Old A-Hole
Where's Gruffin Johnson?
Good question about "Griffin" Johnson, we need him, tough games ahead.
Agree. How exactly was he supposed to make the tackle there?
