Tim Pernetti for AD

HColumbia is fortunate to have a shot at an excellent candidate for Athletic Director: Former Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti.

I believe Pernetti, who now works for Major League Soccer, would love to take the job if we were smart enough to approach him.

This is a guy with a proven record of success who I believe was unfairly ousted at Rutgers when he was made into a fall guy for an abusive basketball coach.

These kinds of opportunities don't come around too often. And if Columbia hires some crony like Ted Gregory when gems like Pernetti are out there, then shame on us.

Pernetti is a top guy. Will cost Columbia big time. He would be outstanding.
I will disagree with you regarding Ted Gregory, who I do not know personally. I think he would do a terrific job with admissions and financial aid, and would be very well respected as an alum. I also think that Gregory would be in a position to raise lots of money for athletics.

We have a professional search firm at work. The partner running the search is a former D1 football player. I am confident that he knows about Pernetti. As far as Ted Gregory, if he was '74C, that would make him 62 or so. My hunch is that we would be looking at somebody with more runway in front of him.

Gregory was (is) part of the problem! He helped pick the past three disasters. What makes anybody think that he's part of the solution? Just let him manage the NHDC contract and we would be all grateful!

Actually, the current Football Committee (NHDC) need to be completely overhauled. Remember, they hired Mangurrian AND gave him a vote of confidence to bring him back after going 0-20 this year. We need to get our heads examined to have those guys "advising" the administration on any decisions!

That's the ongoing joke!

Thanks for the update OldLion!

Getting serious about this. First, who in hell is the NHDC and what actual formal (if any) status/power do they possess?

Second, Ted G may have many good qualities, and Jake himself has alluded to those, but he is too closely identified with our culture of failure and debacle to be a serious contender. There will be a revolution and barricades in the streets if he is appointed. We have an amazing and unprecedented opportunity to change the entire culture here, via a new AD and FB simultaneously. That NEVER happens. We blow this one, we suck forever.

Going to be interesting to see the Taylor report. Will it be made public or will there be a "summary" of the report by Murphy. Going to be three very interesting topics- admission , financial aid, and facilities. I am interested in knowing the amount of money raised through donations for football, as compared to the rest of the league. Do we raise as much as the other Ivies.
