Fabulous at 40!

I think it's safe to say this has been a pretty good week for Columbia football recruiting.

Two more excellent recruits have committed to Columbia.

Let's start with a position a lot of fans have been wondering about for months: kicker.

Oren Milstein

Check out 5-9 165 pound Oren Milstein from American Heritage HS in Plantation, FL. Yes, that's the same school that has won two Florida state titles in the last three years. Milstein made the All State team in a state where the high school football is super high quality.

In the 2014 playoffs, Milstein was 6-6 on FG's with a 48-yarder and a game winning 38-yarder as time expired in the state semifinals.  (Postgame interview here)

Just yesterday, the leading Georgia Bulldogs fan site singled out Milstein as someone who they wanted to fill the serious kicking need in Athens.

And here's what the famous Chris Sailer kicking camp program had to say about Oren, who had offers from Georgia and Northwestern:

"Oren is an outstanding kicker. He has a big leg and shows great range. Field goals are excellent. Kickoffs are also near the top of his class. He is showing great improvement from camp to camp. He has a great attitude and work ethic. Like his college future. He should continue to impress college coaches this summer and earn more offers. Will make a fine addition to a college program. Great prospect."

Oren will be the first American Heritage grad to come to Columbia football.

Josh Wainwright

Next is Texas 6A All State Honorable Mention Josh Wainwright. The 5-11 170 pound WR has flipped his commitment to Northern Arizona to come to Columbia from Bowie HS in Austin, TX. He also had an offer from Lafayette. The way he looks on his highlight reel kind of reminds me of Austin Knowlin '10.

Here's an interview with Wainwright from just before this past season.

Wainwright will be the first Bowie grad to come to Columbia football.

Millstein's 38 yd game winner with Championship on the line, looked like it cleared the uprights by at least 10 yds! Another blue chipper for the Blue and White !

Some of these recruits look like they will be on the two deep as first years. We have needs on the OL, DL, at WR and TE, at RB and at the DB positions. And a reliable PK is welcome news. While I would like to see another big OL this is really a great looking group. And none of this would have happened without Al and his staff.

I don't want to put too much pressure on Josh, but he can handle it. Wait till you guys see how athletic and competitive and smart this young man is. I had the pleasure of coaching him in our 7-7 program the past three years at Austin Bowie. Your head coach made a great decision in coming after this young man. - S Tibbels, Austin Tx
