Updates and Clarifications

RB Hogan Irwin just announced that he's committed to Johns Hopkins.

There is a bit of a debate over whether Irwin was ever truly offered by Columbia in the first place, but many of us were under the impression that he was and he committed to CU.

Either way, it appears he's not coming and best of luck to him in Baltimore.

The updated unofficial list, (and the Irwin news reminds us about just how unofficial it is), is at the bottom of this post.

Rory Schlageter

More on Schlageter

New commit Rory Schlageter is a 6-3 225 pound TE from Seton Hall Prep. Judging by his height, I wonder if he will end up playing more of an H-back position, or replacing the graduating Nick Durham as more of a blocking TE.

Despite its proximity to the Columbia campus, Seton Hall Prep has sent only five previous grads to the Lion football program according to my Lionfeeders Columbia recruiting database. The last one was Mike DiTomasso '14. But the best Seton Hall Prep alum at CU was Jack Nork '49, who played on some of those legendary teams in the 1940's under Lou Little.

It's important for Columbia to set up more of a pipeline to schools like Seton Hall Prep, and a significant part of our difficulties over the years can be traced to a lack of that kind of a relationship with these schools.

Jake, Hogan Irwin gave a TV interview last Fall in which he said that he was committed to Columbia and actually explained why it was the right fit! It is still online. So something must have happened below the radar here. but we have a few really outstanding RBs coming in, so we shouldn't feel the loss, especially since he wasn't unhooked by Tony Reno or another Ivy.
