Jake, did we get more acceptances than we anticipated? I ask because of the rolling 4 year average of 120 football recruits. Between this incoming class and the last two classes, I count 110, leaving 10 slots for next year.

38 frosh is a BIG class (and talented too) to add to the excellent mix of players who are already in CU BLUE. I can't wait until we find out the leading QB candidates are in the spring game and then scrimmage someone in September with the new talent on board. Are you sure that we are talking about Columbia Football?

According to INSIDENOVA, Mitchell Shinskie was chosen 1st Team Virginia All-State 6A Defensive Lineman.

Shinskie mentioned that one of the reasons he chose Columbia, in addition to the excellent coaching staff, was because
it was a "program on the upswing."
He then cited our improving record. Further evidence we've turned the corner and will be competitive for the foreseeable future. Oh joy !!

Re: John Bishop, RB, Bishop Diego, Santa Barbara, CA.

John was chosen California 1st Team, All-State (medium-sized schools) by Cal-Hi Sports.

Further, John carries a 4.52 GPA taking a course load filled with AP classes. He has received all A's during his four-year high school career.

I am not sure I am yet emotionally prepared for all this winning!

As avid a fan and supporter as I am, I caution against being overly optimistic. True, these kids all sound really good, but the question I have asked here several times already is beginning to be answered: how do we stack up against the rest of the league?

The answer is not that promising. According to Hero Sports top 25 FCS recruits, Princeton has destroyed everyone in terms of top-level recruits, including one of the top QBs in the country. He is the top FCS recruit so far..

https://herosports.com/fcs/football-recruiting-top-25-fcs-recruits-brevin-white-ajaj

Additionally, Princeton has 3 others in the top 25, Harvard has 1 and Penn and Yale each have two! We have none.

Now, these aren't the only reporting/rating guys out there, and Bagnoli hasn't worked his magic yet, but don't put on the Pollyanna glasses too soon. We did good, sure, but a lot of others did great. Prepare for that.

Chen, get ready. It's happening.

I think Big Dawg hits the mark. We have a good class, but others Ivies do too. I'm suspicious about rating commits at this point when there's no shared reference point. We'll only have that when when the seasons rolls around again.

...but whether we have the top 5, 10 or 15 class....from what I can see my money is on Bagnolis deep and skilled coaching staff to do more with them than any other coaching staff in our league

Incoming RB from Bishop Diego HS in Santa Barbara, CA, is John Harris not John Bishop (Tod Hawks above). Profiles in local press
indicate solid player and character. Has played DB too. Agree with Dawg and others not to count too much on HS stats,
rating predictions etc. Everyone has some good recruits. Our group may not have top talent but enough to grow into a genuine contender.

That's the coach's' job, to mold a quality team from a promising, large talent pool. I think we have the man for that job.

Classes are rated by most so-called experts and rating agencies by counting the number of two and three star recruits. The current Sophs were on that basis rated as a top five class nationally.

Tod Howard Hawks, Columbia College, Class of 1966 said...

Sorry, Chick. John Harris from Bishop Diego is right.

I think Chen is right. Columbia recruits an outstanding class, but Bagnoli is the difference-maker.

He is, far and away, simply the best coach in the league.

Tod Howard Hawks, Columbia College, Class of 1966 said...

According to USA Today, Derric Lee was chosen Illinois All-State 2nd Team DB.

Al has said that his recruiting goals are getting good athletes and creating competition up and down the roster. If a good QB emerges we will be one of the best teams is the league. That is the Bagnoli factor. The man is flat out a brilliant coach.
