Week 10 Picks

I went 5-1 straight up last week and 4-2 against the spread. That brings my season totals to 37-26 SU (.587) and 32-30-1 AGS

Georgetown +21 1/2 at Holy Cross

The Crusaders have been faltering down the stretch. They will win but this game will be closer than expected.

Lafayette -10 1/2 at Lehigh

The Leopards look to finish strong.

Marist +17 1/2 vs. Bucknell

The Red Foxes will just barely cover.

Dartmouth -2 1/2 at Brown

This could end up being the best game of the weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes either way, but I think Dartmouth will bring it's A game on defense.

Yale -1 1/2 vs. Harvard

Yes I am picking Yale to win and tie for the title, (and possibly pull Dartmouth into a 3-way tie for the championship too)

Penn -3 1/2 vs. Princeton

Home field advantage should do the trick here for the Quakers.

Here's hoping you're right this week, Jake! Signed, a Dartmouth fan.

Columbia is listed as a 5 point favorite vs Cornell. I think we have lots to be playing for and, if we can contain J. Wang's scrambling ( use LB as a spy perhaps),
we can win. Looking for a late breakout game by the Offense. There have been flashes but no consistency. Is this the game ?

Captains Corner this week had two important observations by the captains: that we have a very good defense but when they were asked to be a great defense they fell short: and sophomore rover Joe “Schmo” is one of the 5 mos talented players on the squad.

I have to express my modest disappointment that Justin Townsend had a good but not a dominating season. I expected him to be a DPOY this season but he was somewhat neutralized.

Let’s be honest about the Columbia D. Have given up ALOT of points against the top teams in the IL. ALOT. That’s not a good D. They’ve held their own against the average teams in the League. 2nd worst points against in the Ivy League. Facts.

In terms of LB’s referenced above and overall. Good players but when game on the line, they’ve come up short and didn’t make the plays. Wiff/Missed tackles. Run over at the goal line. Kids need to hit the weight room.

I know this is a football blog, but I wanted to take a minute to observe that the state of women's sports at Columbia seems street's ahead of the men's side. WBB is taking ranked teams like Duke to the wire and the soccer team plays Clemson in 2nd round of Ncaa tourney......while MBB plays SUNY Delhi and Football cannot win a game in league.

When you watch post game interviews....the women coaches are energized, sharp and confident in their comments...the men's coaches are ... frankly dull and cliche in their comments. Women's teams always come out after half time better and more competitive...men come out with no pop whatsoever.

Can only be down to coaching.

Where is the next Tim Murphy that we can find for the lions?!

This is pretty simple—our OL is not good, limited experience with too many first time starters. Last year’s OL had 4 experienced starters and a TE who could block. So our guys play hard but cannot protect the QB or open holes for the RBs. Losing Canty was huge—best player on the team. But the players play hard and never quit. Is it Mac’s fault that the OL was not good, or is it the fact that he didn’t have horses? And Joe D was a rookie OC with insufficient time to prep for the role. As far as Mark, I am in favor of keeping him—he cares, he works hard, and th players want to play for him.

Are you saying, there are no candidates that would be interested in being the next head coach, who would care? Who would work hard? And for whom the players would want to play?
What has Mark Fabish done to show anyone that he is head coaching material?
Enough about the young offensive line. As the Offensive Coordinator, Mark Fabish knew last December that this year’s team would have an inexperienced line. Competent coaches scheme around the talent they have. He had more than ample time to prepare. By the way, last week, Brown played with two, second string tackles.
As to Joe D. Mark Fabish could easily have called the plays all season, if Joe D. did not have time to prepare, That seems to work for Andy Reid and countless other head coaches, why not try it? Mark Fabish designed this offense, he certainly should have known the playbook.
Stovall had the defense well under control. Mark Fabish could have bolstered Joe D in game planning during the week.
As to Mac. Great coaches develop players. Progress should be visible throughout the season.
And most of all, competent coaches make adjustments in game. When did we see that this year?
If you believe the record is not on Mark Fabish, than you are saying no other coach would have a record other than 2-7 at this point. No other coach would have as many trios where it was goal to go and did not score.
It is perfectly fine to like Mark Fabish, and wish him well, but do not ever try to absolve him of this year’s debacle.

“Give it a rest.” The truth hurts, huh? Fabish has been awful, and that’s being charitable.

Why do we have to give it a rest? Why can’t we want better? Every school in the country has turnover at all positions. Some years your line is up, some years your line is down. Some years your skills are up, and some years your skills are down. It doesn’t give you a right to win two games at this point.
There is nothing wrong with him going somewhere else and getting experience and learn how to lead a football team and become a better coach. And if he desires to come back to Columbia and if the need arises then look at hiring him then. But why should Columbia go through this for the next years to come?
Be better than that! Want better than that.
Ask yourself this question, if Bagnoli was still coaching, and if we won 2 or 3 games would we want him back?

Call Pilling. You're preaching to the wrong crowd. Report back with some info.

In the rain against Princeton, when points mattered, we went for it on fourth down and goal. Against Cornell, with nothing on the line, we kick field goals. I do not care if we win today by 75, can we get a real Head Coach in here?

Anyone who watched the fourth quarter of Harvard/Yale saw athleticism and quality coaching.
Why can that not be Columbia?
By the way, how about Dartmouth’s first year head coach?

I have to express. Townsend is a stud.

Pr 10, Pe 20, D 13, Br 14, Cor 14. You want to say not a great dominating defense, Ok. But that is very good defensive efforts. Can they be better, hopefully we will get a chance to see next year
