Now THAT'S a protest!
The fan outrage is bigger than I thought it would be over Columbia being the only team denied any coverage by the new Ivy League contract with the NBC Sports Network.
What hasn't surprised me is the lack of any response or explanation from the league or Columbia's athletic department.
To be fair, I DON'T think this exclusion is the A.D.'s fault. But I do think it really should not go without some kind of response. The fact that Head Coach Pete Mangurian immediately mentioned it and Dianne Murphy has yet to say a thing speaks volumes.
I suspect the silence from the League and Murphy is part of the autonomy we all signed away to NBC as part of the TV deal. Publicly criticizing it is probably taboo.
(Hint: whenever you're barred from publicly speaking your mind about something, it usually means you've made a bad deal).
NYC vs. LI
Speaking of shutouts, none of the incoming Columbia freshmen will be participating in Boomer Esiason's Empire Challenge high school all star game on June 19th.
I was hoping to see either Toba Akinelye or JD Hurt in the game.

I wrote Robin Harris. She basically said too bad, what do you expect with a one win season.m she then had the temerity to state that the contract is still a great deal because Columbia will get mentioned from time to time. She is in other words a complete flunky of Harvard and Penn.
Princeton had only one win.
Yes, but Robin is even a bigger flunky of Princeton than Harvard or Yale.
The Penn folks hate Robin.
Mangurian's blog had it "right on" .... we need to use this to motivate us as fans ..... quit the blame game and focus oon how to show support for the team .... attend preseason camp in late-August and early-September .... let's get better attendance by bringing friends and family to a game ..... I like his suggestion about meeting the team bus when they get back from a road win ..... my plan is to go to Harvard and Penn ....oooh I would love to beat one of those teams !!!!
Tremendous blog statement by Pete. Classy guy. Robin Harris gets an F grade for not assuring that each of the eight Ivy League schools gets on NBC this fall. There is no justification for his/her blunder. He or she ought to be fired immediately.
Oh wow, we should be honored that NBC will "mention Columbia" from time to time- totally unacceptable BS from an incompetent administrator. Don't do us any favors!
According to philly.com, the "television committee" of Ivy ADs responsible for the deal consisted of AD Bilsky of Penn, AD Beckett of Yale and AD Murphy of Columbia.
