Austin Corner

Brock Kenyon

Being recruited by the Ivy League gives players the luxury of taking a bit longer to make their college decisions.

Lake Travis HS CB Brock Kenyon has just committed to Columbia.

The 6-1, 190 lbs. Kenyon had standout junior and senior seasons for Lake Travis and had a solid offer from Yale as well.

You can see his highlight video by clicking here.

Kenyon will be the first documented Lake Travis player to join the Lion football program, which is too bad since Travis is a perennial state power. In 2011, it won its fifth straight state football championship.

This past season Lake Travis moved up to the tougher 5A classification and still did quite well, finishing the year at 9-2 overall.

You can see how seriously the local community takes Lake Travis football in this video report from the FOX affiliate in the area previewing the season. A short video clip of Kenyon in practice is included in that link.

Excellent coverage skills. Knows how and when to start playing the ball. Good tackler.

I do not mean this to sound negative as it is not, but rather a complement to the coaching staff, and the Columbia experience. These young men signed up for very early am practices knowing that ~70 dress for any home or away game. With a class of this size, maybe 50% or so will dress for a game. The selling of Columbia with the faculty and staff that assists Coach M has done excellent work in having these young men commit to COlumbia. They will never regret a Columbia education or the camaraderie they will have with the other young men for life.

Some will show in opractice they belong in games; original starters (and their replacements) will get injured.
If these recruits are worthy, they will compete for playing time, be ready to jump into games. Certainly, last year showed there are many changes in the dressed group

Coach M has said that the biggest jump in the quality of the program happens between the first and second year.
I am really pumped about this fall.
We will win SIX (6).

Need more Texas recruits.

Most good Texas High School football programs are like small college ball. Every recruit should arrive at a college program ready to contribute.

Have a relative who played at Notre Dame about 6or 7 years ago and still follows the program. Says Hilinski is good and that he has two younger brothers that are going to be better. If you ask me a 6'7 Ivy League QB sounds like a future TE

With Nottingham and Hilinski coming in, the passing game looks to be a highlight next year. Big "If," though -- the OL has got to be bigger. You know opposing teams will be hungry to knock our QBs down a peg.

2012 Roster says 3 6'7" OL; 1 6'6"; 1 6'4" plus any new big guys to come in.

Young guys that size should not have any problems putting on 20+ pounds of muscle.

Both QBs look quick enough to evade 300 pound DL men.
