I’ve been holding off on this story for some time because I
don’t have an exact name yet.
But I have learned that DB/RB from the University of
Minnesota will be transferring to Columbia and will be eligible to play this
fall.
Running back is an acute need for the Lions right now, so my
money is on this player converting to RB only if this transfer goes through.

At 6' and 185 he is more likely going to be a CB than a RB.
My bet is on some of the freshmen candidates to win touches at RB. Unless Alan Watson can carry the load they are going to run out of options quickly. These 1-2 yards a carry guys are not going to get it done. They need a dymanic running game, screen passes, etc. If they are smart and agile in their offensive game planning they will test and utilize all of their options. If they are boxed into their own dogma then the running game will suffer.
Speaking of transfers, what ever happened to baseball transfer Joey Falcone? Is he still playing for us?
He is still playing but is in a terrible slump. He did get a very key 2 out RBI against Dartmouth last week.
Falcone not playing as much as usual because of his slump (batting around .100). I recently received the baseball wrap-up from the Coach and I replied asking him about Joey. I doubt if he'll address that but if he does I'll report it here.
There are plenty of 6-0, 185 lb, running backs who shred the Lions. It's the talent, not size, that counts.

Lion baseball beat Pr for the third win v. Tigers this weekend. One more today.
I am really impressed by the depth of this Columbia baseball team. Falconer becomes invisible and Paller explodes. Savage comes out of nowhere to one of the best first years in the league. Donino gets rocked and we bring in fresh arms after two innings. We fall behind and routinely rally. So much for the myth that playing sports at Baker Field is a big negative.
Hmm... the coach at CU who just happens to be the best communicator with the alumni and fans also just happens to be our most successful coach of the last 25 years. This is no coincidence. Great communicators make great recruiters and recruiting is everything.
The four game weekend sweep of Princeton was the first time we did it to them since we went to the two division format in 1993. And look at the way we did it. Down to our last out in game one and we get the walk off. Down a bunch in game two and our bats explode. And then we win going away in game three and explode in game four. This is a team which plays with great confidence.
Coaches just have different personalities and adjustments to social media. There are many effective baseball coaches passionate about what they do who do not blog. It so happens the CU baseball coach is into that. The basketball coach is not. Pete's story is a little different. I think he is just focusing on areas he can control right now. There's no question he feels the fire under his butt. Is that really a secret at this point? Will social media and discussing issues make it or break it for the program right now? Either they come alive and win some games or it will be another change of the guard.
I did notice there is a new feature on the main CU football page. They have a correspondent (maybe an intern?) who provides status updates.
Pete's lack of social abilities long predate social media. This is a guy who exudes no charm or warmth. It's amazing we recruit anyone with him.
While I hold no brief for Pete, I have to admit that I had a different reaction to him on a personal level when I met him at a Saturday afternoon basketball game shortly after he was hired. I introduced myself to him as an alum of the College and we spent the entire half time making small talk. He really couldn't have been more personable.
Jake and some others are too hard on Pete. C'mon, Jake, even Republicans are capable of compassion (aren't they? :)
Football coaches tend not to be warm and fuzzy types. It would be great if there were more Pete Carroll clones who are personable while comprehending the bottom line but it just isn't the profile.
While I do not think Pete has handled everything as well as he should have, the battle is pretty much won. The writing is on the wall for him. The battle with the AD is a different matter.
If tennis and baseball pull off championships Dianne will take that as vindication especially in light of the 21 win basketball season and the competitive showing of most other sports except for the one that matters most.

Yes, Republicans are a lot more compassionate than a President who wastes billions $$ every day, much of it on himself, while American children are hungry, or turns his back on Americans dying during a terrorist attack or sends the IRS after critics of his ridiculous policies and daily disasters.
I say nothing personal about PM because I personally know nothing about him. I judge him by his work product, and efforts to shift the focus will fail.

The subject on this thread is the performance of Columbia football, over the years and in particular during the PrezBo, Di and Pete M years. Yet your last post was a request to know which political party I belong to. You're a dedicated political farceur.
I belong to no party except the shrinking one of law abiding, patriotic Americans grateful to be living in what has been up to now a free, safe and secure democracy.
I was registered as a Democrat for 45 years until it became apparent the party was interested only in wielding power by demonizing self-supporting and
Independent-thinking Americans as racist, violent hillbillies, including those like me who grew up in Manhattan, voted for Adlai Stevenson, JFK and LBJ, and studied with Van Doren, Hadas and Justus Buckler
So now, dear Alawicius, I am registered Republican and will continue to vote for candidates who prefer a free and prosperous America to the current corrupt model.

But if you want to talk politics and Jake permits it, then man up and tell us your most dearly-held beliefs. And don't waste space with your ignorant insinuations about party labels. You may be a label but I am not. My political passion is for facts and freedom, not lies, thievery and coercion, not party names or labels. Since you think in labels, stick yours wherever you want.
