Based on several reports sent to me, I believe the meeting
yesterday with Rick Taylor and about
20-25 football alums went generally well.
Outgoing Athletic Director Dianne Murphy was not in the meeting, a positive sign, and there
seems to have been little meddling from anyone in the administration.
I also believe based on reports from those inside the room that
Taylor will indeed deliver a thorough and accurate assessment of the football
program.
But here’s the problem: Taylor’s report is only being sent
to Murphy and President Lee Bollinger.
That fact does not induce much confidence at all that any of
the substantive changes Taylor will recommend will be implemented. Judging by
Bollinger’s and Murphy’s track records, I suspect nothing more than cosmetic
will be done at all.
Either way, we can only hope for the best anyway.

It's getting sordid. Seamy, too. Can we at least agree on this? And maybe that this very site played some role in that path (which was not totally inevitable, I still tell myself)?
I'm going to hope for the best, because if nothing changes then the
response from concerned alumni like ourselves will get uglier, and that is not something the Administration wants. Why go to the effort of hiring Taylor if you're not going to follow at least some of his recommendations?
No high school kid in their right mind is going to play for this clown after reading this.

Now its national. This will kill recruiting.

I now know why the letter was pulled back. What is going on here is beyond FUBAR and for these 18-21 year olds to be in the middle sickens me.
At other schools this would be grounds for termination for cause of both the HC and the AD.
These are the facts, just don't shoot the messenger! Jake was merely reporting that a document is in circulation, that's all.
Please keep in mind that all of this could be avoided if the administration just listened to Jake LAST YEAR!!!
OldLion- why was it pulled back?
It's not just Deadspin, it is a story for everyone covering football, including ESPN.
Can someone explain why the letter was retracted? Pete's Jeckyll and Hyde routine is getting too weird. In fact, this whole scenario is beyond ridiculous. As George Carson coined the phrase, "We invented a whole new way of losing" (after the Joe Pisarcik fumble)
