Does anyone want to wager what the #1 topic of discussion will be at tonight's Ivy Football Association Dinner?
Will the talk be about Harvard's back-to-back titles?
How about the NFL draft prospects for Yale's Tyler Varga?
Or maybe the fact that Brown grad James Develin scored a TD in the AFC Championship Game?
Nope.
Uh uh.
Sorry.
I guarantee you, almost everyone will be talking about the mess at Columbia, our lack of an Athletic Director and head football coach, and how the team is worse than anyone can ever remember.
There will be jokes, there will be questions, but most of all there will be pity.
That's what we're reduced to.
I hope that outgoing AD Dianne Murphy and the rest of the official Columbia delegation at the IFA dinner tonight is forced to hang their heads in shame.
Because they don't deserve to be there.
They have disgraced the Ivy League, disgraced Columbia, and disgraced themselves.
I also hope the other schools' former players and the former Columbia players there on their own dimes will not shy away from politely, but forcefully, condemning Murphy and co. to their faces.
They have no one but themselves to blame for Columbia's descent to ever lower lows since 2011.
Remember, there is a tacit acceptance of their failure among the well-heeled alumni.
This cannot continue.

Hard to imagine attendees not already being aware of Columbia's troubles and the root of it being everything discussed on this blog. It's not the fault of the players or alumni. My guess is in the same room over drinks and good eats, gents will be gents about it.
As an aside, I notice Joe Azelby is a team rep for Harvard. In my opinion he is one of the best defensive players in Ivy history. I saw a lot of Ivy games in the early 80's, including driving to west point to see Harvard play Army. Azelby carried the defense. I thought he was a lineman the way he was in on every tackle. He was an all star LB and had a cup of coffee as a special teams guy in the NFL (Buffalo).
I would pay the reg fee for this event just to shake the man's hand. Columbia needs of a few Joe Azelbys in the program.

Until there is some movement or decision, there is really nothing to talk about except the absence of something to talk about.
This is like "Waiting for Godot". Existentialism at its worst.
Except for the info given to the team this week, re being on the verge of having an AD, I can only hypothesize that they don't have an impending candidate. Else why would there be such a glaring lack of info?
I sincerely wish the best of luck and respect to Columbia in coming to a wise and successful conclusion in this effort.
Regardless of everything which has gone on before, we all love and respect Alma Mater. Some may disbelieve that, but it's true. Give us a good decision. Give us a reason to cheer. That's all we are asking for.
