Spartan Star

Lucas Faria

Sparta, NJ HS star RB Lucas Faria has committed to Columbia.

Faria battled a hamstring injury this past season, but that didn't stop him from rushing for 239 yards in the state championship game at MetLife Stadium last month.

You can see Faria's highlight video here.

You can read more about his performance in the state championship game here.

Believe it or not, but according to my Lionfeeders data base of every documented Columbia football commit, Faria would be the first Sparta grad to come to the Lions.

Is it possible that a former FBS-level recruit written off because of his hamstring injury has now fully recovered and Columbia has snatched a once-in-a-decade player?

I can't think of a program that deserves it more.

Here now is our updated list of publicly known commits:

LOL, once in a DECADE recruit???? Dont sound so desperate for a good recruit. The kid had ZERO offers from IVYs or PL. But hes a ONCE in a DECADE recruit for CU???? Thats the problem at CU now....smh

I saw Faria play this year against Pope John. He is a great athlete and a tough two way player.

Can't we look up scouting sites for 40 times, shuttle times etc., so little info available from CU staff. OL/DL men are judged by size and weight, when some foot speed is necessary.
5'11" 190 RBs need quickness.
I hope the scouts know some of these numbers, even if we don't.
If we knew more about these kids, our guesses as to potential sucess would be more accurate.

He would be a good addition if fully recovered. Same goes for Schroer who looked serviceable in limited action last season before injury. I have been less encouraged by Leander Cutler who seems way too undersized to make an impact at RB.

But Cutler is a good slot receiver and tough little runner, can get lost in the crowd., caught a TD last year.

Catch this vid on Faria, especially his oach's comments. He had a fantastic junior year, was slowed down his senior year by injury but finished up with 240 yards in championship game, so hopefully he'll be ready to go.

My last word on Faria...he was 1st team All-State his junior year, and he was already wearing Columbia Blue (we would do well to copy the rest of his team's uniform). Jake could be right about this one.

Faria reminds me of a RB who played for us four or five years ago, from Northern California. Great junior year, set for Stanford, injured in his senior year with a fall off in production. Stanford lost interest, we picked him up, and it took him two years or so before he was 100% and a real contributor his senior year. the only caveat here is that Sparta plays in a small school division where the competition is so so. Alos, highlight films are very misleading since all they show is the best of a player's performances.
