Jake

Only a few of her sycophants ever believed she was "retiring". I think most of us knew it was a euphemism for getting canned. Frankly, I credit her with a sound tactical move; seeing the writing on the wall (calls for her head from Spectator and many alums, the FB collapse, etc.) she took a full year of pay post-announcement which quieted the villagers, and is now using her buff resume (loaded with all the spun factoids of her 11 years here, a la the Bollinger accolades, the Frisbee championships, etc.) to land another gig.
Nothing wrong with that. I never said she wasn't a shrewd cookie.

I understand that she has listed Jake and Big Dawg as references.

Big Dawg seems to have missed or forgotten the list of what happened during her tenure. Bush league!

The A & M football Rattlers play Miami and Coastal Carolina. Under M. Dianne, their badminton team is certain to win national scholastic All-star honors.

I agree. She is. Bush League, that is.

Now, one last time and then she's in the rearview mirror. I never said she was Saddam. Just that she reached her level of incompetence about 5 years into her stint.

She cleaned up the Department and organized it better than her predecessors, and brought it into the 21st century, and then she hit the wall. She earned her points with minor wins and individual champs, who we all know have little or nothing to do with their school since they already have private coaches and major accomplishments before admission. Tennis, fencing. The world doesn't look at individual champs. So my repeated statement has always been that she polished the handrails on the Titanic instead of plugging the leak.
She demoralized the entire department, fired many coaches (good ones) under questionable circumstances, and was generally perceived as more ambitious than truthful. And she wasn't taking the program anywhere. She stopped being productive in her 4th year.

When one looks at what has been accomplished since the Taylor study, one realizes what we didn't have/never had and what we now have; a professional AD and not a politician. DM was an excellent politician, a decent administrator, but not a very good pro.

She's gone. History is written by the winners. May she thrive someplace else. I'm bored with her.

Just in case you didn't see this:
If you had your choice, which would you rather Ivy MBb championship or 6 FB wins?

Seen and answered a few posts back. Basketball title because that is conceivable in next couple of years. Six FB wins may take a couple of years and a FB title a bit longer. But I'm expecting a big surge from Kyle Smith soon, and for Bsgs to accelerate quickly.

Framing the question differently....

What would you all trade to have an undefeated Ivy football squad next year?

No other Ivy champ in Fencing, Tennis, Soccer, Baseball and basketball for 3 years? 5 years? More? No trade?

Basketball can win this year if Rosie is back and there are no injuries. Hunter will be ROY.

If Rosie and Grant are back and 100% , and Lo stays healthy, with Castlin, a healthy Petrasek, an improved Coby and the best recruiting class in the league we should be the best team in the league. And Lo is capable of being anothe Steph Curry.

Clearly, her connections were well established at Columbia to have been able to give notice a year in advance. The question is how well her connections will land her a new gig. It's not just one source that has been critical of her AD management prowess so hiring committees doing their due diligence will see her for what she is.

Feels a bit optimistic on MBB. But I don't have a feel for the recruiting class. What leads you to believe that Hunter is all that? I do like Castlin a lot. Do we have a big man who can be an inside threat?

The German recruit, Lukas Meisner, is a 6'8" forward who has a complete game. He played in a very high level league in Germany. Luke Petrasek, if healthy, is a very talented 6'10" big man. And Jeff Coby, 6'8", is going to have a breakout year. Hunter played at a high level,AAU league, is 6'6" and growing, and was one of the top HS players in Florida for the last two years.

Thanks old lion......I guess these guys coupled with two first team all Ivy vets in Lo and Rosenberg and highly talented Castlin could be a much better team than last year for sure. You have me excited.

BB looks very good, and I'm excited about the upcoming season.

Re the theoretical questions about what trade-offs would be acceptable for an undefeated FB team, my answer is "none". First of all, few of us are worried about that. We only sought competence, because once that's achieved, the titles will eventually come. So the goal was to cure the 60 year-old disease. And this was never only about FB, but about raising the level of all athletics to a consistent par with the Ivy League, which we have rarely done.

Again, as long as we have a dedicated, professional and goal-oriented
group of admins and coaches for ALL sports, we will succeed. The first steps have been taken. Now we stay the course with patience and oversight.
