No Shame

Rob Paller returns next year

Well, Columbia never had a chance in the Regional Final game rubber game against Miami last night. Kudos to the Hurricanes and especially their powerful hitters who woke up big time from the get go.

But this Columbia Baseball team has nothing to be ashamed of and even has a lot to look forward to right now. A lot of the best hitters are graduating, but enough remain along with a great pitching staff to give the Lions a great chance to win an incredible fourth straight Ivy title.

And now the real countdown to football begins. 109 days until the kickoff of the 2015 season at Fordham. This is going to be a tough season in many ways, but it should also be uplifting and fun in a way we haven't seen for Columbia football in a long time.

Brett said we ran out of arms. The extra game playing out of the elimination bracket did it. Nobody was left to pitch. But it was a run for the ages.

PS we also have the double play combo of the last two ROYs coming back.

from AD:
TUSCON, Ariz. - Pitcher Harrisen Egly and shortstop Randell Kanemaru both earned a spot on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, announced today. The selections made by Collegiate Baseball newspaper feature a wealth of talent from throughout the country.

Jake: do we know the number of football players on campus this summer working out?

Jake, in the conference call before the coach was announced, it was said that because recruiting season was ongoing and they were somewhat behind because of the coaching process, don't be surprised if they go 0-10 again. As tough as it is Columbia fans to hear, do you think they'll take 0-10 if it means they're more competitive and in the majority of the games they play??

Yeah, I think the fans will take it. Maybe not the newbies, but the core supporters.

I think Bags was hedging his bets when he said that.

Given our history, Bags would be smart to hedge. But I truly believe that with a better level of overall talent vs. last year, a much more motivated and positive team, and infinitely better coaching and use of players, we should knock off at least one opponent. Any more would be a gift from God, but might happen.
0-10 could easily happen, but if we are "in" the games and don't lose because of incompetence, the crowd will understand. I believe most of us are looking for progress, not perfection. Bag's second season will be telling.

Agree, the thing we DID NOT see with the prior teams was improvement and/or consistently increasing competitiveness...

Bags has decent players, some good transfers, and a few good ones that had quit and are now returning. He should beat Georgetown, Wagner, and Cornell.

Bags is playing it close to the vest. But I think we have some legitimate talent and will do a lot better than most people expect. To me the key is the OL.

Let's not concede another losing season before it begins. Several games are winnable. True, competitive play, even during losses, is essential but that doesn't mean we can't win too. That excuse about losing until we "learn how to win" was Mangurian's pre-planned excuse.

P.S.--I meant to write "winless season" instead of "losing season," I don't expect a winning season this fall, but not another 0-10
either.
