Columbia Game Notes

St. Francis Game Notes

Leading Story Lines

1) Columbia finally opens it's 2019 season after a 308-day off season. St. Francis already has three games under its belt. This is the standard M.O. for Ivy teams, with good and bad facets to them when it comes to chances of winning. A bigger factor may be that this is a 5-hour road trip, just as long as the big trips later this season to Dartmouth and Cornell.

2) Columbia's two new starters at safety face a big challenge in a St. Francis receiving corps that features a 6-8 WR and a 6-7 TE.

3) It's the first game back after an injury-marred 2018 for QB Josh Bean and WR Josh Wainwright. They'll be closely watched and possibly strictly managed to avoid new injuries.

It is painful to listen to the St Francis announcers....or should I say county fair organisers interviewing every alum since the beginning of time while the game is going on.

Meanwhile, our secondary looks quite shaky

Good win....some first quarter jitters then the D settled in and also the Special teams play was fantastic....this kid Roussos is a player

Chen,
don't let them get you down. Do what I did.
Just mute the sound because you and I know how to watch a fb game.

In the first quarter we were not at "game speed" as Bags like to say. But after that we were bigger, FASTER, and more talented than the Red Flash. We completed only 50% of passes; or it would have been a greater rout.
SFU got two gifts from us early for their 14 points, but then averaged less than 3 yards per carry. Next week I expect to see a much improved Lion team!!

Where do we stand on injuries?

Hallmark of Bags teams : they take care of business against inferior opponents, they make adjustments on the fly, they have superior special tems, they manage the clock well. Take the W and get ready for Georgetown.
Had to turn the sound on the broadcast off, Chen, the play-by-play announcer wasn't adding anything particularly enticing in between
County Fair fare !

As i watched in the early first quarter, my old memory went to "oh no, we're gonna implode"....but as I watched I could see plainly no sense of panic..in fact the opposite: confidence. From late first quarter onwards, our guys outplayed the red flash quite noticeably

Dare we dream?

I thought the announcer might start auctioning cattle or sell tickets to evening bingo

INTERESTING QB ROTATION. BEAN LOOKED RUSTY; LENHART DID NOT. BOTH SHOULD CONTINUE TO PLAY. BEAN AND WAINWRIGHT WILL BE NEEDED AT 100% TO BEAT PRINCETON. INJURIES ARE A QUESTION MARK FOR ME—WOODLEY AND MURPHY ARE KEY GUYS.

"Magic Mike Roussos" is an extraordinary football player-- one of the best kickoff and punt returners I have ever seen. I can't wait to see what he accomplishes this season.
