Is Tomorrow D-Day?
The beginning of the new semester is tomorrow. In this interview with the Columbia Spectator 47 days ago, he said he hoped to name a new A.D. by the beginning of this semester.
If no Athletic Director is named tomorrow, then President Bollinger should make a statement giving us an update on the hiring process and also some kind of explanation as to why he's behind schedule.
It's as simple as that.

I will wager my annual salary as chairman of CAEC that this will not happen tomorrow.
If it does, I promise you that it is a staged PR event, based upon the "deadline" of end of first semester.
No, the process will continue. With the exception of the total blackout of any information (which is incomprehensible) I understand and respect the time being spent on the search. Of course, this assumes that the time spent is due to a concern with making a wise and competent decision. I think everyone here is hoping for a successful outcome. I am.
Acting HC Rippon told the team that they are finalizing the arrangements with the new AD as we speak. The guys on the team think that it is not inconceivable that we will go into next season with Rippon as acting HC. That's all I know.
I've heard similar reports that Rippon may be in place for either all of this year or until June or July.
If so, that is madness. But instead of reacting with outrage, we will simply see many of the few fans still out there not coming to the games and giving up on the team.
Chris is a great guy and an excellent football coach. From the Pasqualoni-DeLeone Syracuse regime-
this would be totally lunacy and dumb to keep this guy. How much lower can we sink? this is like watching the titanic sink in slow motion.
When I say we suck, we suck...I am not talking about the kids. I am talking about the lack of accountability and inability to make a positive decision from the people in charge.
If Jake and oldlion are correct, the absurdity of the admin's course of action is obvious. If the status is indeed what they both describe, WHY wouldn't this info be released to the Columbia community? What harm? They tell 100 football players and God knows how many AD staff, and they expect it to remain a secret? So why don't they show some respect for the rest of us?
This has been the entire problem all along; the ownership and closed door attitude, the "my way or the highway" attitude, the "daddy knows best; shut up, kid" mentality. This has nothing to do with secret negotiations. If no names are mentioned and if the info is imparted as it already has been per above, the is flatly no reason or justification for not making some sort of public announcement.
PS
Personally, I can live with Rippon as the HC for a year, if necessary. He'll be far better than PM, and it will give us that much more time to find a quality guy.
Besides, even if next year is rough, I'll be looking at it as a start upwards, not a bellyflop.
See Yahoo sports article regarding college coaching changes. This makes Columbia look incredibly inept. Also, answers why we can't pin the tail on the donkey.
We are going to have another donkey sans tail HC
Has anyone from the spec tried to get a comment from the admin?
One way or the other it is pretty much another lost season for the program. They will not be able to be competitive with their schedule regardless of who the head coach is. Though, the fact that the program seems content to stick with a low level coaching staff is troubling. It is what i have come to expect from the powers that be.
Sounds like they just want to keep things on an even keel for the players after what they have been through. Not that the administration is/was capable of a big shake up anyway but maybe hiring a Schiano would be too much of a jolt for the players. When it comes down to it everyone really just wants stability. It's 0-10 stability nonetheless.
Regarding the AD, take a deep breath and relax. It will get done, and no decent HC is going to come here without the AD situation in place. As far as Rippon, he is a vast improvement over PM, understands he is the interim coach, and has the respect of the players.
You hear that everyone? RELAX! I mean, it's not like we have any evidence that the administration doesn't know what it's doing in regards to football and hiring athletic directors.
Oh wait...
Agree with Jake, would feel alot better if the admin would acknowledge that there are people out there who really care and deserve to be kept informed.
Their track record is so bad the only reasonable we can be right now is skeptical.
That being said, if we were to somehow make a signature hire in the coming weeks I am confident we could sway some kids to drop their prior verbals from low D1, Patriot leauge and other Ivies and sign with CU. I know that is a big if and not likely but just saying it could happen... A name like Schiano, like him or not, would probably make some kids think about doing that...
Jake
With regard to oldlion's "relax" advice, I believe it refers to the fact that we have no play here anyway, and that CU is going to do whatever it wants, so we should accept the inevitable and relax.
Of course, this assumes the decision is wise, which time will prove. If not, then it becomes an entirely different matter.
I, for one, am prepared to give CU one more chance to get it right. The admin is certainly aware at this point how critical their performance is, and how closely it will be scrutinized. Frankly, if we have another fail, I think LB will begin to see job implications.
Putting the AD question aside for a moment, let's say Prez and BillC had a lot to drink and sent out a memo to CAEC offering the alumni an opportunity to select either Greg Schiano for the head coaching role or leave Rippon in place. Which would you choose?
With Schiano, I know he would start in good graces and things would look rosy. That is until he hits a bump in the road and he loses it. It would be the same pattern as Mangurian just wearing his patience down, unable to get it done. The cone of silence is his friend.
With Rippon, it is just a staus quo. What is he really going to do different than his predecessors?
Anyone else notice Alvin Smith has departed the program? He and Mike Cooke were the best of the assistants. Of course Cooke left a year ago but he was good.
Old Lion,
As far as the HC and AD jobs are concerned, no doubt it will get done, but with what sucessfull outcome?
I, for one have lost all respect and confidence in the CU administration.
Until they prove me wrong, I will remain a fan of the young men that continue their pursuit of respectability on and off the field.
Al
CAEC would never want or take any position or role in choosing an AD or coach. Our only stance is insisting the admin do the job they are paid to do, professionally and expeditiously.
Whatever happens is their call, and their responsibility, completely.
Big Dawg, it's a little late to tell me that. I am at the Old Pro in Palo Alto California and Billy C has a lampshade on his head. I almost have him convinced to make a call to Prez. What do you think? Maybe we can get Lou Holtz as AD/Head Coach.
This idea of making Rippon the coach for next season is defeatism at its worst. Why in blazes did we go through this horror for the past year and the past 60 years?
We need a first-rate, highly qualified new coach, not one of Mangurian's assistants.
I'm tired of repeating this: Murphy resigned last September FIRST. Well before the start of the season she knew would be another disaster thanks to her.
Bollinger let her stay on as the "resigned" AD for another paid year and did nothing about seeking her replacement BRCAUSE HE INTENDED TO KEEP MANGURIAN.
BOLLINGER COULD HAVE HAD A NEW AD MONTHS AGO. He still doesn't have one and because of his continuous malfeasance. Some people here now say let's keep Rippon and just write off the 2015 season.
You know what's better? Just drop football. I'm not waiting any longer for CU to compete.
I don't want any old AD or any coach just to fill a spot.
I want us to take our time and find the best AD and coach "team" that we can find, then give them the proper support and tools necessary to succeed.
If that takes a little extra time to assemble and it costs us a little bit next year I can live with that. I've been waiting long enough and I want us to go for greatness rather than just be good...
I just wish the admin knew how to tell us something like that (without naming names to protect confidentiality) in the meantime...
I'd rather the administration annoy us now and get things right. Why would a coach commit before an AD is announced?
And God help us is it's Schiano:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000268792/article/greg-schiano-losing-tampa-bay-buccaneers-with-autocratic-style
Jake and others, the recruiting situation seems OK, with 10 commits. I wonder if the Mangurian firing has actually given our recruiting a boost, even without an AD of a HC.
I beg to differ on the recruiting front. Almost all of the kids have no other Ivy offers and some of them are still injured.
A coach or ad wont take this job, not because of this blog, but because the administration is a 3 ring circus that all want control. If a coach or AD thought they could manage their process correctly without interference from above then we would have the spots filled already.
Oldlion, on what basis do you say that the recruiting situation looks OK?
Who is telling you this?
This is why LB needs to be out in front "selling"the prospective AD and coach that he is personally going to see to it that this program is successful...
Any AD or coach considering coming here konws our history, culture, ineptitude, dysfunction, etc. If LB is not part of the sales pitch than I would be extremely skeptical we will get anyone who is considered blue chip...
