An article in today's Yale Daily News sources the U.S. Department of Education and says that Columbia has the highest football budget in the Ivies at $3.226 million last fiscal year.
To those who believe this #1 expenditure number proves the administration truly is committed to winning, consider these two facts:
1) Spending the money is indeed a big part of this, but it doesn't mean it's spent wisely. I don't recall anyone recently claiming the administration was doing things on the cheap. It's just been doing things on the stupid.
2) New York's added cost of living factors need to be considered. In real dollars, Columbia may not even be in the top 3.
But this report is revealing and worth discussing further.

Jake's 2 points are well aimed.
I have said for the past couple of years that there is nothing wrong with our AD budget, just with CU's expectation/demand for ROI.
About NYC costs, I am not so certain, but I do believe they affect the net available amounts to some degree.
We are in NYC, our expenses should be the highest in the league
